PART I MASS MEDIA (3 marks)

1.Two forms are:


 single frame cartoon – where there is only one frame in a cartoon, and is focussing on an issue.
 Cartoon strip - a comic series which come out daily or weekly in newspapers or magazines,
consisting of more than 1 frame and usually tells a story. (2 marks)

2. The byline the name of the person who has written an article and this is found between the headline
and the text of the article. (1 mark)

PART II LIBRARY (3 marks)

1. The inventory book contains a list of all the materials contained in the library, inclusive of
written and digital materials. (1 mark)

2. This is a detachable cover, usually made of paper and printed with text and illustrations,

PART I
Extract A (5 marks)

i) Hari’s father (1 mark)

ii) because he had taken toddy from the Khanekar brothers on credit and when he couldn’t pay, the
Khanekar brothers killed Pinto. (2 marks)

iii) For not working since Hari and Lila had to leave school to cater for the family and also for being a
drunkard since he had to sell his boat and cow to buy toddy. (2 marks)

Extract B (5 marks)

i) on the beach in Thul. (1 mark)

ii) because a while back, he was proud that his boat was being launched but now, the boat tilted to one
side and slipped off the roller. When this happened, the villagers started to laugh at him. (2 marks)

iii) He loses his source of happiness and pride since the boat could not be launched with pomp and show
as he had wished. Instead, the boat is launched quietly without any spectators. (2 marks)

One important lesson I learnt from the story The Brothers is One good turn deserves another or Young
people can learn a lot from their elders or Always show respect and good manners. (2 marks)

PART I

Extract A (5 marks)

a) X is Ilai. (1 mark)

b) Ilai has cured Iva and since she had a terrible ordeal and she is also pregnant, so Ilai said for her
to rest. (2 marks)

c) Y is Atama and he is grateful since Ilai has cured Iva. Atama loved Iva and could not see her
suffering. (2 marks)

a) Ilai is the witchdoctor who cured Iva. (1 mark)

education a Pacific Islander remains enclosed in the village not knowing what is really happening in
the outside world. (2 marks)

a) TITLE: ISLAND FIRE
POET: KONAI HELU THAMAN (1 mark)

b) “embers” refers to a dying fire. (1 mark)

c) because lighting a fire with kerosene is easier compared to using the traditional means of

d) The mood of the poem is sad and pensive because the persona/ poet feels deeply about her
