About the author


Aisha sherazi has spent 20 years as a volunteer school principal,
counsellor, writer and much more in the Ottawa community. The mother of 2 immigrated to
Ottawa from London, England. She had studied medical biology at Brunel University and
completed her PhD there. In Ottawa, however, she left the science behind. She strongly
highlights the problem that plague our society and lets her readers reflect on them to bring about
a change.

Introduction
The poet wants to convey the fact that the spread of education and growing technology
gadgets like iPad, iPhones,laptops etc have reached the hearts and minds of people .This surely
has adversely affected their social relation with their family and friends.
The relationship between parents and children has been affected the most, as parents are
either working and children are really busy with school work. It is true that nowadays
technology rules the world. Undoubtedly, human interaction has been influenced through
introduction of new technological devices. There ae positive and negative impacts on
everything. Technology makes the world move faster. but using to much of technology is surely
damaging the relations.

Glossary:
1. Trundle- move slowly and heavily.
2. Disgrace- shame / stigma
3. Freak- behave in a crazy and irritational way
4. Breakdown- failure/damage.

ANS: According to the speaker, there is a breakdown in communication these days.

ANS: The speaker feels that instead of us, our computers and phones speak for us.

ANS: We are all busy with our work these days.

ANS: It is important that we connect with people around, talk to them, listen
to them, and share our ideas and opinions with them

Communication breakdown is huge challenge as expressed by the speaker. What do you think
we can do as a society to heal this breakdown? Give instances

Ans: Some initiatives can be taken such as creating awareness about the need to
communication, practicing gadget free at home ,having at least one meal
together as a family, bedtime sharing and talking organizing events around
where people can meet new people and exchange ideas and listen and talk etc.
