Matrikon OPC UA Tunneller Installation Guide

Matrikon OPC UA Tunneller Pre-Installation procedure.


Before installing UA Tunneller, ensure that the following steps are completed:

Pre-requisites:
Ensure that the computer on which UA Tunneller is to be installed has Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4.5.1
or higher.
Note: For Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, .NET Framework v4.6 should be installed.

Since UA Tunneller process will be running as windows service, ensure to provide the user account which has
“Log-on as a service” right granted.
“Log-on as a service” rights can be given by adding the user in the following location:
Control Panel  Administrative Tools  Local Security Policy  Local Policies  User Rights
Assignment  Log on as a service
Note: Keep a note of the account used here along the password as it would be used elsewhere during the
product configuration.

Installation using MatrikonOPC installer wizard:


If you are installing Matrikon OPC UA Tunneller with regular installation package, run the installer setup exe
“MatrikonOPCUATunneller.exe” with a user account that is a part of the “Local Administrators Group” on that
computer. This is required so that the installer process has the required privileges to setup UA Tunneller correctly.

If the user account under which the installer is running, is a “Domain Administrator Account”, ensure this user also
belongs to “Local Administrator Group” on this computer.
Note: Keep a note of the account used to run the installer setup exe “MatrikonOPCUATunneller.exe” as it will be
required to launch the “Matrikon OPC UA Tunneller Configuration Panel”

Configuring permissions for account used for UA Tunneller Services:


After the installation process starts, the user is prompted with a dialog to provide user credentials to be used for
UA Tunneller services.
Note: While configuring UA Tunneller, user will be prompted to enter user credentials for few components. Ensure
that the credentials entered are same which are entered during installation of Matrikon OPC UA Tunneller in the
User Credentials Dialog.

Silent Installation using command prompt:


1. Open the cmd (Run as Administrator).
2. Navigate to the Tunneller install folder and pass the argument as shown below:
Example:
MatrikonOPCUATunneller.exe /s LOGINUSER="User1" LOGINPASS="Password1" LOGINDOMAIN=".\"
LOGFILE =” C:\Users\User1\Desktop\UATunnellerInstaller.log” TARGETDIR="C:\Program Files
(x86)\Matrikon\OPC" STARTMENU="C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu".

Note:
 LOGFILE,TARGETDIR and STARTMENU are optional parameters.
 The default log file will be present in “C:\Windows\Temp”.

Setting User permissions for UA Client to Classic Server component certificate:
During UA Tunneller installation a user account is provided which is used for the services of the UA Tunneller
process execution. If the user account is a non-admin user, certain permissions should be given in order to run
UA Tunneller successfully.

The non-admin user may not have access to read private key of the certificate from the windows certificate store.
This access should be given to the non-admin user by following below steps:
1. Go to Start  Run  Type mmc  press Enter
This will open the windows certificate management store.
2. Go to File  Add/ Remove Snap-in…  Select Certificates  Click Add  Select Computer Account 
Click Next  Click Finish.
The following screen will be displayed.

3. Select MatrikonOPC UA Wrapper for COM OPC Servers


4 Right Click on Manage Private Keys… as shown below.
5. Add the user and provide full permissions.

Ensure that “From this Location:” text box contains correct user account location. For e.g. for a local user account
the location could be hostname as shown above. For a domain account it could be an URL of the domain where
this account is created. Browse and choose the locations by clicking on “Locations…” button next to this text box.
