1. What is the relevance of ICT in your chosen course?
ICT in medicine related courses or health information technology is very influential in
form and function, wherein the focus is on the improvement of storing and transmitting
information. It is also very helpful in nursing school more specifically in the education of
future nurses. When new form of health information technology is introduced, nurses play an
important role in making it effective, for nurses will always be one of the first to use these
new forms of technology. In using an Electronic Health Record, the IT knowledge of the
nurse is vital, for this record contains a patient’s complete medical history along with past
treatments, allergies, and past prescriptions, and later on be passed to doctors. Using health
information in nursing results in effective storing of patient information along with security
checks which could alert medical personnel on the condition of the patient, increasing the
patient’s safety. Health information technology also allows multiple medical professionals
simultaneously be involved, disseminate, and share updates on a patient’s record, allowing
efficient care coordination of different medical professionals on a patient. In enhancing
performance and medical analysis, utilizing technology is important, it can test the skills of
medical professionals and allow analysis of a patient’s health condition be analyzed
effectively and efficiently.
2. Name at least 4 uses of ICT in our daily lives and explain.
The use of ICT especially on today’s modern world, is very rampant and has been a
part of our daily lives, of all the uses of ICT in our daily lives, it’s role in the field of
communication is one of the most important. ICT greatly improved our way of
communication, we can now message a person, miles away in just second, and get a reply
also within seconds, you can also try audio or video calling them, we can be connected to
anyone wherever they may be using facebook messenger, electronic mail, skype, etc. and
this were all thanks to the advancement of ICT. Sharing and receiving information also
became easier to reach, local newspapers can now be read online, and gathering data can
now be accessed in your fingertips (online), news can be accessed almost everywhere
where there is technology, along with these advancements you can now also easily share or
voice out your opinions to the community, or to your online friends. Education is surely
important to on our improvement as a person, and ICT as it evolves education system also
evolves, we can access free education online, or we can stream educational videos even
when at home, especially during these times of pandemic online education is very helpful to
the students as well as to the teachers, wherein you can utilize technology to teach and to
learn. The entertainment industry has always been evolving parallel to technology, today
there is now digital broadcasting which promotes a more interactive programming and
participation of the viewers. We seek for entertainment every day to freshen up our minds
and preserve our mental health, as well as to promote our mental health, sometimes we also
use it to help us focus. Technology provided us the entertainment we seek may that be
streaming videos, listening to music, hobbies such as capturing photos/videos, etc. ICT
made so many things possible in the entertainment industry like computer gaming or e-
games, photo/video editing, graphic framing, animation, and many more.
3. Give 5 positive impacts and 5 negative impacts of ICT in the society.
Positive Impacts
1. E-learning – ICT made distance learning and teaching more effective and
more accessible, along with the use of different computer tools or
platforms that aid the students and teachers on their online classes
2. Effective Communication – this is by far one of the most important
impact of ICT, communicating with your loved ones even abroad made
possible, where you can also do video or audio calls.
3. Social Relationship – online friends or referred to as other person using
the internet who has the same interests like you and being in touch with
them can be fun and this allows us to share information, opinions, data,
etc., with then through the use of online platforms like facebook, and this
allows us to be more socially active and sometimes bring entertainment.
4. Entertainment – ICT made the usage of our free time more accessible,
we can listen to music, stream videos, play online/computer games, also
with our hobbies; capturing videos/photos, photo/video editing, animation,
etc.
5. Reducing Manpower – using ICT gadgets can aid us in our jobs, and
can also help in reducing manpower like in calculating expenses, doing
data sheets, designing, etc. It can also open jobs to everyone, through
online selling, or in marketing products like in advertising campaigns.
Negative Impacts
1. Reduced Face-Face Interactions – online communication is now mostly
being used today rather than real conversations making a person to
become an introvert that can lead to lower self-esteem. Face to face
conversations is better, so that effective communication can be achieved.
2. Social Disconnection – people become more focused on their virtual
world resulting in forgetting the real world. This sometimes leads to many
psychological or mental illnesses.
3. Reduced Physical Activity – spending to much time on ICT gadgets can
lead to a person being more inclined to sitting style and this along with
continuous use of gadgets can result to health problems.
4. Security/Privacy Loss – sometimes we forget that we are not the only
ones who can view/access our social media or personal accounts, and
sometimes posting too much or virus attacks can lead to leaking of
personal/private information as well as private data (e.g., bank
information).
5. Job Loss – ICT reduces manpower, and this means that manual
operations are now being replaced with digital automation, resulting in job
loss.
