Executive Summary

The research has been done for preparing my-self for applying at a new position

through the recruitment agency. The recruitment agency is specialized in senior management

positions.

The document comprises the five tasks that need to show how to be an effective

manager at a senior position. How to motivate the employees and increase their production

contributes to achieving the organizational goals and Vision.

I analyzed the skill, knowledge, and leadership skills in strategic management to

identify factors that play an essential role in the achievement of organizational mission and

goals. It is done through skill development in a planned way.

The report also analyzed the factors that profoundly influence the organization's

creation and communication with the external stakeholders. I also assess the information

sources required for reviewing the progress against the outcome of the succession plan.

Introduction
The purpose of writing the report is to make self-assessment for personal strength and

weaknesses and making an honest self-reflection and appraisal. It enables me to evaluate the

leadership value and leadership training in the future development of leadership.

Background

The trigger behind writing this report is to quest the hidden truth of becoming a leader. It is

achieved through analysing leadership management knowledge and skills that are the

backbone behind achieving organizational Vision. The report also included my leadership

skill and knowledge management audit. In addition to it, different approaches for developing

Vision also had in the news for making a review of a strategic and personal plan. In the end,

the evaluation of the personal development plan also made against the outcome.

Aims & Objectives

The objectives of writing the report are

 To analyze leadership skill and knowledge management.

 To create a developmental leadership plan.

 To develop an awareness about personal strength and weaknesses.

Why has it written?

The objective for writing the report is set, for showing my competencies to organization where I am

aspiring to apply for the job. I want to get an insight into my inner potential to rule out strategic

Vision set for myself and group or team. That required for supporting the creation and achievement of

organizational Vision.

Scope

Leadership skills are essential for the facilitation of effective teamwork both in

academic and professional platforms. These are the skills that an individual can use to mentor

others. These skills are inevitable for working in a team and leading a team successfully. My

developmental plan is the most crucial goal that enables me to act decisively and practice

good judgment in my grey area based on my analytical and perspectives processes.

The report allows me to monitor my set objectives and take the right steps where I am wrong.

I need to work on it that will enable me to achieve my Vision and organizational Vision.

1.1 Knowledge and Skills in Leadership and Strategic Management

The analysis of knowledge and skills in leadership and strategic management are
1- Delegation
As a team leader, the core thing is a vision that gives me a straight path for

achieving my goals. Delegation allows me to play a significant role in developing

other people working as my followers in my organization. It enables the organization

to make from much more from the human assets they have and not allow someone's

talent to go unused. The delegation also helps me in team motivation. Naturally,

everyone wants to be fulfilled and excel at their job and enjoy a challenge. Delegation

makes the employees understand that they are coming to work; they indeed need to

challenge them. The delegation also helps me in building a team. If as leaders, I give

all staff members equal importance to accomplish a vital task, it makes the team

members valuable.

Delegation is a dichotomous process and central part of the leadership and

strategic management skills. A wise and health delegation would prove to be a key to

success and motivation. For Delegating Responsibility, I will follow the SMARTER

delegation rule. That means a task should be Specific, Measureable, Agreed, Realistic,

Time-bound, Ethical and Recorded. High level of motivation, result-oriented

approach and identification task would also prove helpful for delegating

Responsibility. Defining and discussing the job before its actual execution is also

useful for Delegating Responsibility among the workers.

2- Inspire and motivate
To inspire and motivate other people, it is essential to build mutual trust, healthy

information transfer, encourage the heart and model ways to work effectively. We can also

inspire and motivate others to always urge the people to find out what they want from their

work and clarify my objective work significance, job autonomy and task characteristic to

make their interest in their work. Inspire employee through telling stories of successful

people, building a culture of trust and placing challenges in front of them would compel

them to inspire and use their creativity to complete the task.

3- Developing leadership power

Formal power that we usually experience at different organizations is

inadequate for influencing others during various tasks. It is sometimes evident that the

manager's life becomes miserable due to these powers compared to those who have no

power to control others. In the absence of formal authority, we can influence others

and increase the level of employee productivity. It is the ability to manage

interdependencies, trust, inspiring a shared vision, understanding the workplace's

politics, and mutual understanding about others' concerns would prove fruitful for

exercising developing power and creating a winning situation without any formal

authority.

4- Team building

Effective teams are characterized by people blessed with a high level of

creativity, commitment, energy and moral to exceed others through their effective and

efficient work. Effective teams can be built via practical training and management.

Effective communication, the flow of unguarded information, taking advantage of the

team members' conflict, and cross-functional collaboration with the other members

present at the business would be fruitful to build an effective team. I also

recommended that informal socialization with higher management, god appraisal,

giving financial and non-financial rewards and arrangement of the part after

completing the task would help build effective teams.

5- Conflict management skills

Conflict is the key to success due to a healthy contribution of a different idea

for completing given. Conflict can manage by developing an insight to understand

others' viewpoints, create an environment of trust, and make healthy mutual bonding.

A conflict can be managed effectively if we remain cool and calm and use our

emotion in constructive ways. Try to find the resolution rather than stick with the

feeling of being right is also an effective way to resolve a conflict before it occurs in

real life. Always try to develop forgiveness rather than take back would also prove a

useful approach for conflict management.

6- Motivation

Effective measure and appraise performance and appraisal are acted as the fuel

used to reignite the motivation engine that tends the employees to give their best. For

practical measure and appraise performance, I always make it certain that working

goals should be mutual, clear and expressive. I always set criteria for evaluating

performance after collaboration with all the members present at the organization.

Always try to collect relevant and information that relates the performance with the

organizational goals. Try to avoid the judgmental bias as anchoring and halo effect

before making an appraisal report. The appraisal report should be created so that any

worker can understand the information documented in the report.

7- Selection and hiring of staff

It is the ability to select those people that will increase the profitability and

goodwill of the organization. When I encounter such a situation, I will elaborate on

the right person's criteria and attributes to require fulfilling the post. I will treat the

candidate as a customer and try to find out the exact behaviour that will need the job

when I find that I will select to hire him/her at the potential position before allowing

other organization organizations to snatch that asset from my company.

8- Hold people accountable

For an organization to be successful, a leader needs to make them answerable

at their performance. Otherwise, they remain they blame each other for the task's

failure and consequently deter the customers due to the organization's unsatisfactory

performance. For making people accountable always set opportunities, obligation,

appraisals, on the spot feedback, and value the effectiveness of a particular employee

in a task.

1.2 The Factors that Contribute to the Achievement of Organizational Vision


and Strategy
The five main components contribute to making organizational leadership. The detail view of
these components has been provided in the following paragraphs
1- Leadership

A workplace where effective leadership and support the employees, effectively


fulfilled their needs, the employee will efficiently contribute to the organization. A good
leader always develops a good relationship with others that also help to consolidate people
with him/her. Leaders work beyond the fear, take the initiative and risk to ensure their
exemplary contributions. Leaders has a significant contribution to his/her initiatives in
increasing organizational value. A fair and committed leader also reduce the sickness leave,
early retirements and disability pensions within an organization through their transformational
leadership skills. When it comes to achieving the business's success, it is a conventional
approach that the strategy contributes to making it successful. The strategy is a part of an
entire range of reason but also make the corporate culture successful. In addition to the
strategic change management, several things require for the administration of the amount of
success of the business.

2- Ethics
It is a system of accepted morals, beliefs, and values that can profoundly
influence human behaviour. It has become a vital part of personal and professional
life through time immemorial through sacred texts and theorists, e.g. Socrates and
Aristotle way of ethical behaviours. Leaders utilized the ethics for closely viewing the
organization problem. Ethics also help discover the hidden issues and agendas that
could be proven problematic shortly.
3- Communication

Communication with the followers or employees about their authority that they have

a delegated task. As an in charge of the team, the team leader's responsibility is to define the

degree of authority and scope regarding the task under the review to all the followers. It is

also essential to present information efficiently to effortlessly understand it and insight into

the speaker's thinking and views. Communication allows the leaders to share effectively what

needs to be done and what should be the final desired output. The message could be spread

through email; phones calls texting, and in-person or via meeting. In addition to it, open

communication and the free circulation of notes among all the individual present at the

workplace require free dissemination of information. Use of effective media for

communication also plays a significant role free and comprehensive distribution of messages.

4- Strengths
The organization's leadership management utilized the workers' strengths for the
achievement of the organizational Vision and organizational strategy. Leaders work
on the workers' weaknesses and then turn these weaknesses into strengths that align
perfectly with the organizational Vision.
5- Worldview
The primary factor that contributes to the achievement of organizational Vision and
strategy is the leader's ability to view the organization in the third person's eyes. It
helps the leaders analyze organizational strengths, weakness, culture, processes and
system that influence the business's success. Identify key national and international
trends that can affect my future goals through reviewing political, economic and
social changes.

1.3 Theories of Leadership and Management and How You Apply Them in
Your Leadership Practices

Leadership and management theories


Leadership theories:
Leadership is an integral part of the organization that has to follow to achieve

the organization's goals and objectives. However, it is the personal style of the leadership that

influences followers. Leaders are characterized by intelligence, personality, and abilities. Key

elements of leadership are people, influence, change and objectives of the organization. Leadership

can analyze on three levels that are a substitute, individual and organizational.

Leadership theories classified into four distinct categories viz. trait theory,
behavioural theory, contingency theory and contingency theory of leadership.
Leadership theories: the Basic
1- Trait theory
Trait theory explains leadership's distinctive character to identify those traits that
the successful leaders should possess.
2- Behavioral Theories
Behavioral theories described and explain the distinctive leadership style used by
influential leaders based on the situation. The three styles of leaders are
Autocratic leaders:
It is a leadership style in which leaders do not feel the need of
concerning with the subordinates. They decide on their own. Such leadership style
is beneficial in making quick decisions.
Democratic leaders:
These are leaders who positively support the team leadership
approach. They always look for the subordinate input before making important
decisions at the organization.
Laissez-faire leaders:
In this leadership style, the leaders head-off and allow the
group members to make crucial decisions. It is considered that Laissez-faire
leader’s style led to the lowest productivity among group members.
3- Contingency leadership theories
Contingency leadership theories are all about explaining the specific styles of
leadership based on followers, situation, and leaders. The behavioural approach
that determines the effectiveness of leadership and its outcrop is situational
leadership.

Great man approach is describing the inborn leadership characteristics. According to this

approach, leaders cannot be made they are leaders by birth. That means God bestows

leadership qualities, and it's a natural phenomenon.

The children of the leaders automatically have leadership skills that are transferred from

their parents with genes. Great man approach believes people are born with the leadership

traits and great person possess them. That seems weird to some extent that a wise king

has children with same abilities, characteristics, and Vision. It will not be possible until or

unless children of a king become part of the process under their father's supervision.

Simultaneously, no surety of getting or absorbing the same level of leadership skills

among all children.

Application of theories
strong leadership characters and selfless devotion of an individual also have a significant role

in making a great leader. It is described in the lecture as consciousness under the big five model of a

personality trait. Responsibility, awareness, and knowledge about the surroundings contribute to

making good leaders for the organization. Leadership theories also attempt to present to make a

distinction between the characteristics of leaders from the non-leaders. However, in the current

dynamic and uncertain business environment, leadership theories focus more on the situation rather

than personality or traditional traits. These theories dictate that it is a situation upon which leadership

is exercised use to determine the characteristics and skills of a leader.

Leaders are different from the manager; the manager is rational, analytical, deliberate,

problem-solving and authoritarian. The source of managerial control is head and manager exercise

positive power to make work done. However, leaders are visionary, creative, risk-taker, passionate,

inspiring and flexible. The source of leadership is the heart, and they use personal power to

accomplish the task with the people. These leadership theories are useful.

For example

 For developing insight about leadership process, especially while being the part of a

negative circle.

 Leadership theories also suit when it focuses on getting insight into the capabilities of

the subordinates. Otherwise, dealing with people is not enough to make a leader and

successfully play a leader's role.

 To combat the dynamic business environment's challenges and remain influential

leaders; I should be emotionally stable. I should know how to control the emotions

and how to be tactful while taking work from others. As a leader, I must develop

empathy for a situation and utilize all possible means to make the workers clam and

go along with the situation.

 I can adopt the autocratic management style in case team members dislike work and

are reluctant to change. In another case, if I assume that team members take pride in

doing a good job, then the democratic style should be participative. It is successfully

applied when employees are given opportunities to contribute to the well-being of the

organization.

In the contemporary and uncertain business environment, I must be empowered to gain a win-win

situation. Allow the workers to get involved in the decisions to increase their commitment and

association with the organization. A leader's success lies in the understanding of goals and identifying

directions for making a work done by followers. If leaders create an inclusive culture in which

employees treated as valuable assets. Employees are offered equal opportunities to succeed in their

careers and fulfil their proposals without any physical ability, gender, creed, race, sexual orientation

and valued as an individual. There will be more chances for leaders to peruse their duties and generate

more profitability.

Skill audit is a process that has been utilized for the identification of skill gaps and

required training that has been used to fill these gaps. It is a process by which skills and

capabilities have been recorded. The trigger behind conducting a skill audit is evaluating

effectiveness in achieving professional and personal targets. Skills audit has reflected the

current skills and abilities to achieve success in future.

3.1 Factors which Impact on the Creation of Organizational Vision

When creating organizational Vision, the following factors are considered.


 Specificity:

Creating images of multiple Vision could prove to be blurry at the end. What exactly

should be the end product? Is it gaining wealth or affiliation? What kinds of perks,

compensation or rewards could help to shape my emotions? What opportunity, the

colour of the house, car, or associated facilities will shape my feelings?

I am struggling to make a vision due to dynamics and uncertainty exists in the

organization. Is it bound to follow a straight path because I have only that path? Am

I creating a vision to decide a path to follow when I reached the fork? Is it facilitate

 Ingenuity:

Tangible items like house, car, financial benefits, and other perks have value, but

they also become meaningless after some time. I am lazy enough in choosing what I

Conclusion & Recommendations

The stimulus that triggers the development of the personal developmental plan is the

self-analysis, honest appraisal of my strengths and weaknesses and self-reflection. I will

support evaluating my received leadership training and its influence upon the development of

my leadership practices in the future.

The main point's summary of what I have found from this assignment is. I have found

that the source of improvement of happiness, self-efficiency, and self-well-being is hidden in

achieving personal goals. The requirement is the perfect alignment of my goals with my inner

motives and needs. It can be used as general guidance even when we try to achieve our

emotional improvement. We try to achieve the goals that has been intrinsically driving rather

than the plans that others expect from us. Above all, I believe having strong stamina

contribute to making a great leader. A leader thrills for the adventure that made him keep

headed on without taking into account any danger and harsh weather conditions. He not only

recharged the morale of subordinates but also ensure their safety at any cost.

It is also found that when goals are autonomous that are set by us not forced by others.
We feel more motivated to achieve these goals like a challenge.
Lastly, the exciting fact that I have found out from the personal goals research is clear
and contrast differentiation between the avoidance and growth goals. Here growth goals are
future goals and avoidance goals are those that avoid the change.
