CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter present the summary of findings, conclusion and the

recommendations that resulted from the interpretation of The Impact of Mobile Phone

Usage to the Academic Performance of Grade 12-Hermes Students. From the findings

derived, the researcher drew a conclusion and made relevant recommendations based

on the result of this research.

Summary of Findings

Using appropriate statistical tool, the results revealed that;


1. There were 66.66% of respondents belong to 17 years old and below and 33.33%
belong to 18 years old and above in terms of age.
There were 58.98% of the respondents belong to male and 41.02% belong to female
in terms of sex.
There were 56.41% of the respondents that have an average of 80-86 and 23.08% of
the respondents that have an average of 79 below and 20.51% respondents that has an
average of 87 and above, in terms of GPA.
2. Using appropriate statistical tool, the result revealed that the level of mobile phone
usage to Grade 12-Hermes students when taken as a whole is 4.36 and it is interpreted
as “strongly agree”.
3. Using appropriate statistical tool, the result revealed that the level of academic
performance to Grade 12-Hermes students when taken as a whole is 4.36 and it is
interpreted as “strongly agree”.
4. Using appropriate statistical tool, the result revealed that the t-value of mobile
phone usage is 130.09 and has a p-value of 0.0001 and it is interpreted as significant.
5. Using the analysis, the result revealed that there are twenty-four (24) respondents
says that because of mobile phone they got a low grade, six (6) says that mobile
phones are distraction to their studies, five (5) says that they get addicted to mobile
phone and four (4) of them says that mobile phones lose their concentration from
studies.
Conclusion
1. Based on survey of problem number 1.1, therefore more respondents were
ages 17 and below most of the respondents are male
Based on survey of problem number 1.2, therefore most of the respondents are
male.
Based on survey of problem number 1.3, therefore more of the respondents has
the average of 80-86.
2. Based on the survey of problem number 2, therefore the level of mobile phone
usage
of Grade 12-Hermes students is interpreted as strongly agree.
3. Based on the survey of problem number 3, therefore the level of academic
performance of Grade 12-Hermes students is interpreted as strongly agree.
4. Based on the survey of problem number 4, therefore the significant relationship of
mobile phone usage is interpreted as significant.
5. Based on the survey of problem number 5, therefore more of the respondents has
the
lowest grades because of mobile phone usage.

Recommendations
Based on the findings in this study, the following are recommended by the
researchers:

Students. In the classroom, students must create a conducive study environment: Find

a quiet, well-lit space with minimal distractions to study and complete assignments.

Break tasks into smaller segments: Breaking down tasks into manageable chunks can

make them less overwhelming and help maintain focus. Practice mindfulness and
relaxation techniques: Engage in activities such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga

to reduce stress and improve concentration. Manage time effectively: Use tools like

planners or apps to schedule study sessions and allocate time for breaks. Limit

distractions: Minimize interruptions by turning off notifications on electronic devices

and setting specific times for checking messages or social media. Stay organized:

Keep study materials and notes in order to reduce clutter and make it easier to find

what's needed. Get enough rest: Adequate sleep is crucial for maintaining focus and

cognitive function. Aim for7-9 hours of sleep per night. Stay physically active:

Regular exercise can improve overall cognitive function and help reduce stress,

leading to better concentration. Seek help if needed: If concentration issues persist,

consider reaching out to a teacher, counselor, or mental health professional for

support and guidance. By implementing these recommendations, students can work

towards improving their concentration and overall academic performance.

School Head/ Principal. The findings of this study will serve as a basis for school

head/ principal to foster a positive school culture: Encourage a supportive and

inclusive environment where students, teachers, and staff feel valued and respected.

Prioritize professional development: Invest in ongoing training and development

opportunities for teachers and staff to enhance their skills and keep up with the latest

educational trends. Implement effective communication channels: Establish clear and

open lines of communication with students, parents, teachers, and staff to ensure

transparency and collaboration. Embrace technology: Integrate technology into the

learning process to enhance teaching methods, streamline administrative tasks, and

provide students with modern learning tools. Support student well-being: Implement

programs and initiatives that promote mental health, emotional well-being, and a

positive school climate. Encourage community involvement: Foster partnerships with


local organizations, businesses, and community members to enrich the educational

experience and provide additional resources for students. Focus on student

achievement: Set clear academic goals and provide support systems to help students

excel academically. Promote a safe and secure environment: Implement safety

protocols and measures to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of students

and staff. Emphasize continuous improvement: Regularly assess and evaluate school

programs, policies, and practices to identify areas for improvement and innovation.

By implementing these recommendations, school heads or principals can contribute to

creating a positive and enriching educational environment for students and staff.

Parents. The findings of this study will serve as a way to identify the cause of the

factors affecting their students school performance and teach them a better way on

what to do, so that they can also give a proper better guidance on their children to

minimize their usage in mobile phone. And in order to assist the students more

effectively, developing and maintaining a good grade.

Future Researchers. The current study has provided useful data about the effects of

mobile phone usage to the student’s academic performance, which other studies can

build upon. Future researcher can investigate whether or not age and sex directly

affects students’ academic performance by using this research as a basis of their

study. There is still an open field for the researcher to explore about the impact of

mobile phone usage to the student’s academic performance.
