Contemporary Art
 Contemporary Art
- Contemporary art is the art of today, produced in the second half of the 20 th
century or in the 21st century. Contemporary artists work in a globally
Influenced, culturally diverse, and technologically advancing world.
- Their art is a dynamic combination of materials, methods, concepts, and
subjects that continue the challenging of boundaries that was already well
underway in the 20th century.
- Diverse and eclectic, contemporary art as a whole is distinguished by the very
lack of a uniform, organizing principle, ideology, or “-ism”. Contemporary art is
part of a cultural dialogue that concerns larger contextual frameworks such as
personal and cultural identity, family, community, and nationality.

Seven Major Contemporary Art Forms


1. Visual Art
2. Dance
3. Music
4. Architecture
5. Theater
6. Literature
7. Film/Cinema

 Visual Art
– Is an umbrella term for a comprehensive classification of art which consists of
several artistic disciplines. But commonly, these are primarily visual in nature such
as picture (painting, drawing, and printmaking) and sculpture. A picture is two-
dimensional image produced by using different media such as ink, oil paint,
charcoal and watercolor. Sculpture, on the other hand, is three-dimensional that
may be shaped by means of a stone, wood, and marble.

CONTEMPORARY ART TECHNIQUES


1. Collage is made by pasting different materials such as pictures and pieces of
paper or textile.
2. Digital arts describe technological arts which include digital photography and
digital painting.
3. Graffiti are either serious, rude, political, humorous words or drawings printed
on public walls or structures.
4. Print Making is the creation of images, typically on paper, fabric and plastic
materials.
5. Mixed media are artworks made by combining two or more art materials or
medium.

 Dance
- Is an instance of moving the human body to the beat of a music choreographed in
definite time, form and space.
 Music
- An art that appeals to sense of hearing. It is composed of ordered tones or sounds
in succession
 Architecture
- Is an art form of planning and erecting structures especially habitable ones.
- THE GRAND HYATT MANILA: Wong & Ouyang, as well as Casas Architects were
the architectural firms behind the tallest building in the Philippines. Ove Arup &
Partners was responsible for the wind, structural, and seismic engineering of the

- THE PODIUM WEST TOWER: Designed by Arquiteclomica and completed in 2019
- NEW CLARK CITY AQUATICS CENTER: Designed by Badjie + Royal Architecture.
Designed primarily for SEA Games 2019
- PHILIPPINE ARENA: Designed by global-mega architecture firm Foplulous,
completed in 2014
- SAN MIGUEL CORPORATION BUILDING: Designed by Mañosz Brothers,
particularly National Artist Francisco añoss with landscape architecture by National
Artist Ildefonso Santos in 1996
- ILOILO CONVENTION CENTER: The state of the art convention center designed
by longgo architect William Cosculluela, inaugurated in 2001
- MACTAN CEBU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT- TERMINAL 2: Designed by multi-
auarded firm Integrated Design Associates (IDA) Hong Ko and its principal
architect, Wilson Sinu, in collaboration with world class Filipino designers including
zward winning furniture maker Kenneth Cobompue Completed in 2018.
- THE MIND MUSEUM: Opened in 2012 and designed by Architect Ed Calma of Lor
Calma and Fartners. The design of the structure was inspired from cellular
structure and growth and had a solar reflective exterior, natural wind ventilation
and rain water flow drainage.

 Theater
- Is an art form of presentation. Scripts are represented on stage by actors and are
boosted by props, lights and sounds.
- Rak of Aegis, Lapu-lapu, Zsa Zsa Zaturnah, Ang Huling El Bimbo

 Literature
- Is a written work having form or expression of thoughts of permanence or universal
interest.

 Film/Cinema
- is a technological transformation of a theater. Scripts are portrayed but are pre-
taped and edited before its showing.

Performance Task:
Perform one of the following tasks:
1. Visual Arts: Create a Canvass Painting, sculpture or collage representing your life
and aspirations.
2. Music: Compose or recreate a song of a topic of your choice.
3. Dance: Perform a lyrical hiphop or contemporary dance.
4. Architecture: Create your own design of a building (house, school, mall, etc.)
5. Theater. Create a script for a monologue and perform it.
6. Literature: Perform an originally written Spoken Word Poetry
7. Film: Create a 3-minute cinematic video about school life.
