Metonymy Analysis Using associative Takehiro Teraoka May 2016 In this paper, an associative approach for analysing
relations between words metonymic expressions is proposed. By using
associative information and two conceptual distances
between word in a sentence, a previous method is
enhanced and a decision tree is trained to detect
metonymic expressions. After detecting these
expressions, they are interpreted as metonymic
understanding words by using associative information.
This method was evaluated by comparing it with two
baseline methods based on previous studies on the
Japanese language that used case frames and co-
occurrence information. As a result, the proposed
method exhibited significantly better accuracy (0.85) of
determining words as metonymic or literal expressions
than the baselines. It also exhibited better accuracy
(0.74) of interpreting detective metonymic expressions
than the baseline.

Analysis of figurative language and imagery 2017 The aim of this research is to find out the kinds of
in taylor swift’s songs figurative language and imagery in the song lyrics of
Taylor Swift’s “1989” Album. Furthermore, in this
research the researcher used qualitative descriptive
method. The result of the study is presented in the
form of paragraphs. The researcher analyzed the songs
by reading them intensively and giving attention for
each line. After that, the researcher examined the
figurative language and imagery of the songs lyrics.
After investigating the sentence in the songs lyrics, the
researcher found eight kinds of figurative languages
that are used in the songs lyrics, they are
personification, metaphor, hyperbole, simile,
oxymoron, allusion, litotes and metonymy. Six kinds of
imagery also used in the songs lyrics, they are visual
imagery, auditory imagery, organic imagery, kinesthetic
imagery, tactile imagery and olfactory imagery. The
most dominant of figurative language used is
personification and the dominant imagery used is
visual imagery.

Shakespeare’s selected poems meaning contained in the lyrics of selected poetry by
William Shakespeare. This research applies semantic
theory, especially in figurative language. The theory
used in analyzing figurative language is Alvius's theory

uses a deductive method. The analytical technique
used in this study uses analytical techniques. The data
collection technique used in this research is the
observation technique followed by the note-taking
technique. The results showed that the total figurative
language used in William Shakespeare's selected
poetry was 21 data. Data from figurative language
includes 5 metaphorical data, 2 simile data, 2
personification data, 2 hyperbole data, 4 oxymoron
data, and 6 polysemy data.
An analysis of figurative language in CNN This study aims to analyze the figurative language
international news headlines post on found in CNN news headlines, especially about the
facebook types and meanings of figurative language that
contained in headlines of CNN news. The problem that
discussed in this study such as: what are the types of
figurative language in CNN international news headline,
and how the meaning of the figurative language that

Facebook. Thus, in collecting the data the researcher
used the descriptive qualitative method by doing
several ways such as: reading news headlines, grouping
news titles based to the figurative language type, write
down the news headlines. As the result of this analysis
the researcher found that are 5 types of figurative
language in CNN. They are: Metonymy 2 or 40%, simile
1 or 20%, hyperbole 1 or 20%, and metaphor 1 20%.
And the meaning as many as 3 meaning such as:
conceptual meaning 3 or 60%, connotative meaning 1
or 20%, social meaning 1 or 20%.

and the advices. Then, for metaphor, it contains of
direct and indirect sentence. Besides, for Hypernym-

categorized as noun, verbs and adjective.
