 As a child, I received a lot of private lessons. My parents
believed they were helping me to get better grades in my exams;
perhaps they did. However, I can only remember being very tired
all through my school life, and my view is that private lessons put
too much pressure on children.
Private tuition can result in more successful learning for a
number of reasons. The most significant of these is the fact that a
personal tutor is able to teach individual children on their own
pace. A class teacher, on the other hand, has to keep everyone
involved in the lesson. This means choosing a pace that suits the
average students but may not suit any individual students.
Students can get more personal attention when they are taught
on their own. They do not have to worry about understanding
something straight away, as it can be repeated as many times as

practical in a classroom situation because other students may get
