Description:
This course is meant to be an introductory course that will provide students with the opportunity to
use the computer as a problem-solving tool. The course will introduce the students with basic
concepts of computer and its applications. It provides an overview of microcomputer applications
beginning with a brief introduction to computer concepts and Microsoft Windows XP. Students will
learn to use the Microsoft Office latest version including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
The course also introduces the students with basic Web page creation and integration of the
Microsoft Office applications. The class will also focus on using the Internet in meaningful class
projects. Computer Applications is a required course and there are no prerequisites.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
Be familiar with both computer hardware and software for microcomputers;
Demonstrate an understanding of the role computers play in our lives now and
in the future;
Demonstrate an understanding of the programming process;
Demonstrate an understanding of computer terminology;
Demonstrate knowledge of application software functions;
Use a graphic interface;
Format and edit word processing documents;
Maintain database files and create data base reports;
Identify software-licensing requirements;
Identify communication hardware;
Solve problems using spread sheets.
