Location
Saigon Co.op is the oldest pure Vietnamese supermarket chain in Vietnam. It has been
established since 1989 and has provided various services for customers with more than 20,000
different products. Since being the first supermarket, Co.opmart has been quickly developed and
expended to become a reliable shopping place for consumers in the city. Today, Co.opmart
becomes a civilized and modern market, with 63 supermarkets operating in all areas of the
country. Therefore, Saigon Co.op’s warehouse was constructed on a large acreage in strategic
regions with the purpose of immediately responding to customer requirements all across the
nation.
In the north, Saigon Co.op has a distribution center located in Bac Ninh province with
approximately 5,500 m2, which is able to import 7,080 packages per day and export 5,800
packages per day.
In the west, there is a distribution center of 12,000 m2 in Hau Giang province, which has
the ability to import 15,000 packages and export 12,000 packages every day.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon Co.op has the eastern main warehouse, including five
warehouses in the Song Than industrial zone in Binh Duong with a large scale.
Co.opmart Tuy Hoa is located in urban block B8, Duy Tan residental area, Ward 4, Tuy Hoa
city, Phu Yen province.
The total acreage is about 7,000 m2 with the area of warehouse is approximately 7,000 m2.
2. Layout
The warehouse is designed to utilize as much space as possible for all business lines of Saigon
Co.op, including technological food, cosmetics, appliances, garments, fresh food, and frozen
food. It is required for Co.opmart’s warehouse to serve all customer requirements and the e-
commerce segment (E-Grocery).
Saigon Co.op in Phu Yen has an equipped warehouse system with the proper size for the
supermarket itself to store goods on the spot to ensure that the supply is always plentiful and
smooth and immediately satisfies diverse customer needs, which are imported every day by the
total distribution center warehouses in Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh city.
This company is made up of two warehouses on two floors, storing commodities derived from
business lines on that floor. There are approximately … doors, which provide both U-shaped and
I-shaped layouts. Inside the warehouse, those lines are separated, which are suitable for each
product's characteristics.
Normal space: occupy the area of … m2, including 27,000 pallets for daily products,
appliances, cosmetics, clothes, etc.
Cold region: occupy the area of … m2, including 5,700 pallets for chilled and 5,700
pallets for cold. There are two different lines corresponding to products in two groups of
temperatures: -180C to 80C and 00C to 80C.
Each warehouse consists of three parts:

Transshipment unit
Export department
The reasons why items are kept in various regions and stored in large amounts according to
demand are:

1. Warehouse technology system
- Warehouse Management System (WMS): keep tracking stock level, orders, purchasing,
and delivering. This system can control and manage warehouse activities from supply to
customer, which optimize order picking and shipping, replenishment, and inventory
management.
- FoxPro for DOS software running on Netware operating system: barcode scanning and
fast printing invoking.
- Mobility managed services (MMS): improve 'mobility' in an organization, where
employees use technologies to move around more freely and improve productivity. MMS
devices include smartphones, tablets, and hard-wearing technology used by field force
workers.
- Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP): integrate all production and business management
applications into a single system and automate management processes.
- Oracle Cloud: ensure progress and put into operation as planned in a timely manner to
serve business planning and predict customer trends before peak business times.
- Intranet (Intranet intermediary emailing system): a way to improve the effectiveness of
information exchange within departments by using an intermediary connection managed
by servers and workstations. Currently, Coop.mart is promoting the application of the
information exchange system between supermarkets in the Coop.mart system in the form
of telex
