Ans A.The ruins of Vijayanagara was discovered by
Mackenzie in 1800.

Q2.Why was Colin Mackenzie interested in knowing

Ans Because he wanted to understand India ‘s past which will
help the governance easier.

Ans He felt that East India company could gain useful

Ans He was interested in encouraging trade to make the
Empire prosperous and also wanted to keep other nation
merchants happy with good business conditions here.
3. What incentive Krishnadeva Raya want to give to the
merchants coming to trade in his Empire?
Ans By gifts, daily audience for them and decent profits.
4. For whom the king want the care to be provided for ?
Ans The king wants that proper care to be taken for
foreign sailors , merchants who visit his Empire for doing
trade or who leave their land because of storm,illness.

Ans The natural basin formed by Tungabhadra is the main
source.
3.Mention one advantage of constructing tanks.
Ans The tanks water can be used for irrigation in nearby
farm fields.
3. What was the observation of the traveller regarding
the tank?
Ans According to Domingo paes , The water is being
brought from nearby lakes, the tank is being built of 3
pillars with carved figures on it,there are gardens and rice
fields,which received water from the tank itself.
4. Why the author compared tank with the ants?
Ans Because he observed that so many people were at
work approximately 15 to 20000 that they look like ants
from a distance.

Ans Because Domingo paes is unable to see the whole


Vijayanagara from one spot, he can see a part of it only when
he climbs the hill.Its also situated in between hills.

Ans 1. He describe that the city looks like Rome,

Ans 1. The bazaar had beautiful streets where merchants selling
diamonds,rubies,cloth grains, wheat,barley and beans.
2. What made the Vijayanagara markets described as best
according to Domingo Paes?
Ans He described Vijayanagara as the best provided city in the
world of that period, because it had abundance of goods sold
ranging from rice,grains, fruits like mango,pomegranate to all
non veg items like mutton, all available at one market place.
