VISITING MONUMENTS

Tell me about your last trip.

My last trip was to Saigon. I visited Ben Thanh Market and enjoyed the
lively atmosphere of District 1. The most impressive part was going to
the War Remnants Museum and learning about the city’s history. I also
really enjoyed the street food in Saigon, especially pho and banh mi—
they were delicious. Additionally, I took a sightseeing bus around the city
center, which was amazing.

Do you like visiting monuments? Why?

Yes, I enjoy visiting monuments because they help me learn about the
history and culture of a city. In Saigon, places like the Independence
Palace and Notre-Dame Cathedral are not only beautiful but also tell
important stories about Vietnam’s past. Visiting these sites helps me
understand the city better.

Why are monuments important in the city?

Monuments are very important because they preserve and showcase the
city’s history. In Saigon, monuments symbolize past events and
achievements. They are a great way to educate the younger generation
about the country’s culture and history. Monuments also attract tourists,
which supports the local economy and connects people with the city’s
past.

STOP DOING SOMETHING

Tell me about the time when someone told you to stop doing
something.

A few months ago, while I was giving a tour at the Independence Palace,
I was speaking a bit too loudly through my microphone. This was
affecting another tour group nearby. A fellow tour guide kindly came
over me and asked me to lower my voice to avoid disturbing others. I
appreciated their polite reminder and adjusted my volume right away.

How did you feel about it?

At first, I felt a bit embarrassed because I hadn’t realized my loud voice
was causing a problem. However, I understood the importance of being
considerate to other groups. I was grateful for the feedback and made sure
to be more mindful of my volume in the future.

Do you think there are too many rules in modern life?

As a tour guide, I think there are rules everywhere, but they’re not too
many. Rules help keep things organized and make experiences better. For
example, we need to keep noise levels down in public places, be quiet in
sacred areas, line up properly where needed, and keep the environment
clean. Overall, rules help everyone have a more enjoyable and smooth
experience.

GET LOST

Tell me about the time you got lost.

A few months ago, while I was giving a tour in Hoi An, I took a wrong
turn and ended up in a narrow alley. I was looking for a lantern shop and
got a bit lost. It took me a while to find my way back to the main street,
but I quickly got back on track. I learned to be more careful with
directions after that.

How did you feel?

At first, I felt stressed because I didn’t want to delay the tour or confuse
the tourists. I was worried about the mix-up. But I stayed calm, used my
map, and found my way back. Once I was back on track, I felt relieved
and took it as a reminder to be extra careful with directions in the future.

What do people usually do when they get lost?

When people get lost, they usually stay calm and try to figure out where
they are. They might use a map or GPS on their phone to find their way.
If that doesn’t help, they often ask local people for help or look for
landmarks to guide them. However, getting lost can sometimes lead to
discovering unexpected and interesting places along the way.
MUSIC

Tell me about your favorite kind of music.

My favorite music is Vietnamese pop, or V-pop. I love the catchy songs

and upbeat rhythms. Artists like Sơn Tùng M-TP and Hồ Ngọc Hà make
music that’s fun to listen to and dance along with. Their songs mix
traditional Vietnamese sounds with modern beats, and they always make
me feel happy.

When do you listen to music?

I listen to music all the time, while working, during my commute, and
even at home. It helps me focus and makes everyday tasks more
enjoyable. I also play music when I’m hanging out with friends or at
social events to make things more fun and lively.

How is the music like in your country?

In Vietnam, music is very diverse. Traditional Vietnamese music includes

folk songs and classical pieces played with instruments like the đàn tranh
and đàn bầu. Modern Vietnamese music features pop, rock, and hip-hop,
blending local styles with international influences. Our music blends old
and new styles, so there’s always something interesting to listen to.

RECYCLING

Are you good at recycling things?

I’m not really good at recycling things, but I try my best to recycle
possible. I separate paper, plastic, and glass into different bins so they can
be recycled. I also use reusable bags and bottles to cut down on waste.
Every little bit helps, and I’m always looking for ways to do better.

What things do you throw away that you think should be recycled?

Sometimes I accidentally throw away plastic water bottles that I think I

could cut up and use as pots for growing vegetables and flowers. Also,
cardboard boxes are very useful for storing various items in the storage
room. I’m trying to be more mindful about reusing things before throwing
them away.

Should recycling be mandatory?

Yes, I think recycling should be mandatory. It helps cut down on waste
and keeps the environment cleaner. If everyone recycled, it would make a
big difference for our planet. It could also encourage more people to think
about how they handle their waste.

ASK A QUESTION

1. Tell about a time you asked a question.

I remember one time during a tour, I asked a question to learn more about
the local culture. We were visiting an ancient temple, and our local guide
was explaining its history. I was curious about the significance of a
particular statue, so I asked, "What does this statue represent?"

The guide explained that the statue was of a deity worshipped by the local
people for protection and prosperity. It was fascinating to hear about the
traditions and beliefs associated with it. Asking that question not only
gave me more insight but also made the tour more engaging for everyone.

2. Do you find it easy to ask others?

Yes, I find it easy to ask others questions. Asking questions helps me

learn more and understand things better. Sometimes it feels a bit scary,
especially if the person is very busy or very knowledgeable. But usually,
people are happy to help and answer my questions, which makes it worth
it.

3. Are there any subjects that are difficult to learn?

Yes, some subjects are hard for me to learn. For example, science and
math can be tough because they have complex concepts. It takes me
longer to understand these subjects and I need to put in extra effort. But
with patience and persistence, I can usually figure them out and improve
over time.

PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT

1. Tell me about a personal achievement or award you have received.

Last year, I received an award for being the best tour guide of the year. It
was a big honor because it showed that my hard work and dedication
were recognized by both my peers and my clients. I always try to give the
best experience to my tour groups, ensuring they have a memorable and
enjoyable time. This award made me feel very proud and also motivated
me to keep improving and learning more about the places I guide tours in.

2. How did you feel about this achievement?

I felt really happy and proud when I received the award. It was a great
feeling to know that my efforts were appreciated. The recognition
boosted my confidence and made me want to keep doing my best. It was
one of the most rewarding moments in my career.

3. Do awards encourage people to do their best?

Yes, awards definitely encourage people to do their best. They provide

recognition for hard work and can boost motivation, making people feel
valued and appreciated. Knowing that there is a possibility of being
rewarded makes people strive to achieve more and reach higher
standards. It can also inspire others to put in extra effort, aiming for
excellence and contributing to a positive and competitive environment.

GAVE SOMEONE A GIFT

Describe a time you gave somebody a gift.

Well, remember one time I gave my friend a lipstick for her birthday. I
chose a color she liked and wrapped it nicely. When I gave it to her, she
was so happy and couldn’t stop smiling. Seeing her happy made me feel
great. She tried it on right away and kept thanking me, saying it was the
perfect gift. We even took a selfie together to remember the moment.

How did you feel?

I felt really happy and satisfied. It was nice to know she liked the gift I
chose. It also made me feel closer to her and made our friendship
stronger. Overall, it was a great experience that made both of us happy.

Why has giving other people a gift become a tradition?

Giving gifts is a tradition because it’s a way to show love and

appreciation. It makes relationships stronger by showing others we care
for them. Also, giving gifts during special times creates good memories.
Over time, this has become a tradition that people enjoy and keep doing.

TELL THE TRUTH

Tell me about the time you had to tell the truth?

As a tour guide, I once booked the wrong hotel for a group of tourists,
which caused a lot of problems. They were very upset and complained to
the company. I gathered everyone and told them the truth about my
mistake. I promised to fix it as soon as possible.

How did you feel?

I felt really nervous and worried about what would happen. Admitting my
mistake was hard because it ruined their experience. But after I
apologized and started fixing the problem, I felt a bit better. The tourists
were glad when I was honest, which made me feel more confident that we
could solve it together.

Why do we lie?

People lie to avoid getting into trouble or to protect their reputation. As a

tour guide, we might lie to keep clients happy or to hide a mistake. But
lying usually makes things worse and breaks trust. Being honest, even
when it’s tough, helps build better relationships and solves problems
faster.

BOUGHT ONLINE

1.Tell me about the first thing you bought online.

The first thing I bought online was a travel guidebook. I needed it to help
me plan a trip and learn more about the places I was going to visit. It was
exciting to explore all the options and read reviews before making my
choice. I remember feeling a bit nervous about the process since it was
my first time shopping online, but everything went smoothly.

2. How did you feel about the purchasing?

I felt quite good about the purchase. It was convenient to shop from home
and have the book delivered to my door. The experience was easy and
hassle-free, which made me feel more confident about buying things
online in the future. Plus, the guidebook turned out to be very helpful for
my trip.

3. Would you recommend online shopping?

Yes, I would definitely recommend online shopping. It offers a lot of

convenience, as you can browse and buy items from the comfort of your
home. There are also many options and deals available online that you
might not find in physical stores. However, it's important to shop from
reputable websites and read reviews to ensure a good experience.

MET A NEW FRIEND

1. Tell me about a time you met a new friend.

I remember meeting a new friend during a group tour I was leading. We

started talking while exploring a historical site, and we quickly found that
we had a lot in common. We shared stories about our travels and
interests, which made the conversation really enjoyable. By the end of the
tour, we exchanged contact information and continued to stay in touch.

2. What did you get from meeting new people?

Meeting new people gave me valuable experiences and new perspectives.

It was interesting to hear different stories and learn about various cultures
and backgrounds. It also helped me feel more connected and enriched my
understanding of the world. Overall, it was a rewarding experience that
broadened my horizons.

3. What is the benefit of making new friends?

Making new friends has several benefits. It expands your social circle and
provides you with more opportunities for support and fun. New friends
can offer different viewpoints and advice, helping you grow personally
and professionally. Plus, building friendships can make life more
enjoyable and fulfilling.

AMUSEMENT PARK
1. Tell me about one time you visited an amusement park.

I went to Dam Sen Amusement Park with my family last summer. We

had a great time trying all the rides. My favorite part was the water park,
where we played in the pools and went down the slides. We also enjoyed
some tasty snacks from the stalls. It was a fun day, and we made
wonderful memories together.

2. How did you feel about that?

I felt really excited during my visit to Dam Sen. The rides were thrilling,
especially the roller coasters. I loved being in such a fun place with lots
of laughter around. Spending time with my family made it even better. It
was such a happy and enjoyable day.

3. Should we encourage children to go to amusement parks?

Yes, we should encourage children to visit amusement parks like Dam

Sen. These parks are fun and safe for kids. They can enjoy exciting rides
and have a great time with friends and family. Visiting parks creates
special memories together. It’s also a good way for kids to be active and
enjoy the outdoors!

WORKING UNDER PRESSURE

Tell me about a time you had to work fast or under pressure.

There was a time I had to quickly organize a tour for a big group because
the original guide couldn’t make it. It was stressful, but I stayed focused,
did the most important tasks first, and managed to give the group a great
experience. The positive feedback from the group made all the effort
worth it.

How do you manage your time well?

I make a list of what needs to be done and start with the most important
tasks. I also set short deadlines and delegate tasks if possible. Keeping a
clear plan helps me stay on track. This approach ensures that I don’t miss
any crucial details and stay organized.

Do some people work better under pressure?

Yes, some people do work better under pressure. The urgency can help
them stay focused and get things done. But too much pressure can be
overwhelming, so it’s important to find a balance. Knowing how to
handle pressure effectively can make a big difference in performance.

CHOOSE SOMETHING

1. Tell me about a time that you had to choose something.

One time, I had to choose between two job offers that both seemed
exciting. I carefully considered the benefits of each position, including
the work environment and career growth opportunities. After talking it
over with friends and family, I made my decision based on which role
aligned better with my long-term goals. It was a tough choice, but I felt
confident in my decision once I weighed all the factors.

2. How do you feel when you have to choose?

When I have to make a choice, I often feel a mix of excitement and

anxiety. I’m excited about the possibilities and opportunities but also a bit
anxious about making the right decision. I usually try to stay calm and
think through all my options carefully. Once I make a decision, I feel
relieved and ready to move forward.

3. Some say we have too many choices in life. What do you think?

I think it’s true that we often have too many choices in life. Having many
options can be overwhelming and make it harder to decide. Sometimes,
too many choices can lead to indecision and stress. However, having
options is also a good thing because it allows us to find the best fit for our
needs and preferences.

SOMEONE TREATED IMPOLITELY

Tell me about a time someone treated you badly (impolitely).

There was a situation when a customer on one of my tours was very rude.
They complained loudly about every little detail and made some harsh
comments about my service. Despite my best efforts to address their
concerns professionally, their behavior was quite disrespectful. It was a
challenging moment, but I tried to stay calm and handle the situation as
best as I could.

How did you feel?

I felt quite upset and frustrated because I was trying my best to provide a
good experience. It was disheartening to be treated with such disrespect
after putting in a lot of effort. However, I reminded myself that staying
calm and professional was the best way to manage the situation and not
let their behavior affect my mood too much.

How can people deal with such situations?

In my opinion, in such situations, it’s important to stay calm and not take
it personally. We should try to solve the problem politely and, if needed,
we can ask for help from a manager. Remember, we have to keep a
professional attitude to make things better. It’s also helpful to take a
moment to breathe and regain our composure before responding.

A TIME WORKED WITH THE YOUNG AND OLD PEOPLE

Tell about a time you worked with the young and the elderly.

There was a time I organized a tour that included both young students and
elderly visitors. I had to make sure the tour was enjoyable and
comfortable for everyone. For the younger group, I included fun
activities, while for the elderly, I made sure the pace was slow and
accessible. It was important to balance their different needs to make sure
everyone had a good experience.

How did you feel?

I felt excited and a bit challenged because I wanted to make sure

everyone had a great time. It was rewarding to see both groups enjoying
themselves. It also taught me the importance of being flexible and
considerate of different needs. Seeing everyone happy made the effort
worthwhile.

What do you learn from working with all ages?

Working with all ages taught me how to adapt my approach to suit
different needs and preferences. I learned to be patient and creative in
finding ways to engage everyone. It also showed me that people of all
ages can bring unique perspectives and enjoyment to a shared experience.
Understanding these differences helps me create better experiences for
everyone.

A GOOD FILM

Tell about a good film you have watched.

A great film I watched is Titanic. It’s a romantic drama set on the famous
ship that sank in 1912. The story follows Jack and Rose, two passengers
from different backgrounds who fall in love during the voyage. The film
combines a powerful love story with stunning visuals of the ship and its
tragic sinking.

How did you feel?

I felt deeply moved by the film. The love story between Jack and Rose
was very emotional, and the depiction of the ship’s sinking was both
dramatic and poignant. It was hard not to be affected by the film’s mix of
romance and historical tragedy.

Watching films is time-wasting, what do you think?

I think watching films like Titanic can be enjoyable and meaningful.

While it’s important to balance film-watching with other activities,
movies can offer valuable experiences and emotions. They can also
provide a way to learn about history and different perspectives.

THE TIME YOU WERE IN HURRY

Tell me about a time when you were in a hurry.

There was a time I had to rush to pick up a group of tourists from the
airport. The traffic was much worse than I expected, and I started to
worry that I might be late. I felt really stressed thinking about the tourists
waiting for me. Luckily, I got there just in time, but it was a close call
that made me learn to leave earlier.
How did you feel?

When I’m in a hurry during a tour, I feel a bit stressed and nervous. I
know that if I keep tourists waiting, they might not be happy. My mind
races as I try to catch up and make sure everything goes smoothly. Even
though I try to stay calm, it’s not always easy. I just focus on getting
things done quickly.

If you're running late for something, how do you typically feel?

If I'm running late for a tour, I feel a mix of worry and frustration. I think
about how the tourists are waiting and how it might affect their
experience. I try to find a quick solution and get back on schedule. It’s
important to stay positive and manage the situation well, even if it’s
tough.

A TIME YOU SAW AN ART

Tell me about the time you saw an impressive work of art.

Last month, I saw a beautiful lacquer painting of a peaceful Mekong

Delta scene. It showed a calm river, a farmer working in a paddy field,
and a buffalo. The painting looked so real and serene because of the
glossy lacquer finish. It made me feel like I was right there in the Delta,
enjoying the quiet beauty.

How did you feel?

Seeing that painting made me feel really relaxed and peaceful. The calm
river and the farmer with the buffalo gave me a sense of tranquility. I was
impressed by how well the artist captured such a serene scene. It was a
nice reminder of the simple beauty in nature.

Do you think it's important to teach people to be creative? Why?

Yes, I think it’s important to teach creativity. It helps people express their
thoughts and come up with new ideas. Creativity also makes life more
interesting and enjoyable. By encouraging creativity, we help people
discover their talents and add more beauty to the world.

A TIME YOU WERE BUSY

Tell me about your busiest time.

During the high tourist season in Ho Chi Minh City, I was working nearly
every day, taking back-to-back tours. My schedule was full from morning
until evening, with little time for breaks. Managing so many tours and
activities at once was quite a challenge. Even though it was a hectic
period, I enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere and the chance to share the city
with so many visitors.

How did you feel about it?

During that time, I felt both tired and excited. It was exhausting to work
every day, but I also felt energized by all the activity. Seeing the tourists
happy and enjoying their tours made me feel good, even though I was
tired. I liked being busy and making sure everything went well.

Is it right that the less you work, the better your life is?

Not always. Having some free time is important, but working can also be
fulfilling. It’s about finding a balance. Too little work can make life feel
boring, so it’s good to have a mix of work and relaxation to enjoy life
fully.

A TIME YOU WORKED WITH TEAM

Tell me about the time you worked with others.

Last week, I just worked with a team to organize a big event for our
company. Some of us were in charge of the venue and logistics, while
others handled invitations and decorations. We worked together closely,
sharing updates and making sure everything was doing well. I found that
working together helped us manage all the details and made the event
become successful.

How did you feel about that?

Working on the event was a positive experience. I felt happy and

supported by my team, which made the job easier. We all put in a lot of
effort and shared ideas, which made the process enjoyable. Seeing the
event come together smoothly made me feel proud of our teamwork.

What are the advantages of teamwork?

Teamwork is really helpful because it lets people use their different skills
to get things done. Sharing the workload makes everything more
organized and less stressful. It also helps everyone learn from each other
and makes the work more fun. Working together usually ensures better
results and get more successful project.

A TIME YOU LEARNED SOMETHING NEW

Tell me about a time you learned something new.

I learned to drive a car a few years ago. At first, I had no idea how to
control the car or understand the road signs, so I took lessons with an
instructor. The first few times were tough because I was nervous and
made some mistakes. But after practicing a lot, I started to get better and
feel more comfortable driving. When I finally passed my driving test, I
was so happy and proud of myself.

How did you feel?

In the beginning, I felt a bit anxious about driving. The new experience
was exciting but also challenging. As I practiced more, I felt more relaxed
and confident. Each time I improved, it made me feel more accomplished.
It was a great feeling to see my skills grow and succeed.

What do you think about the idea that it's never too late, young or
old, to start learning a new skill?

I believe it's always a good idea to start learning something new, no

matter your age. Learning to drive later in life showed me that it's never
too late to pick up new skills. Trying new things can be exciting and help
you grow. No matter how old you are, there's always room to learn and
improve. Age should not hold you back from new experiences

TELL ABOUT YOUR LAST TRIP

Last week, my friends and I took a short trip to Vung Tau, spending two
days and one night there. It was also my birthday, so my friends wanted
to make a surprise celebration for me. We decided to travel by motorbike,
and it took us around two hours to reach Vung Tau. Once we arrived, we
rented a cozy homestay where we could all stay together. In Vung Tau,
we did lots of fun activities together, like going to beautiful-view coffee
shops, swimming at the beach, eating yummy seafood, and taking photos
together. At night, my friends made a BBQ party for my birthday at the
homestay.

I felt really happy and had a great time with them. I love trips like this
because I feel close to nature. Even when I got back home, I still
remembered all the fun.

This trip gave me lots of good memories, like hanging out with my
friends and getting to know them better. There was one not-so-fun
moment when my bike broke down while we were exploring Vung Tau. I
had to push it for about 10 minutes to find a place to fix it. It taught me to
check my bike carefully before going on trips.

In the end, my birthday trip to Vung Tau was amazing. We laughed a lot,
made great memories, and had fun trying new things. These are the
moments I'll always remember forever.

A TIME YOU HAD A DIFFICULTY

Three months ago, I faced many challenges in learning English. The

journey started at the end of last year when I aimed to become an
international tour guide to work with foreign visitors and lead Vietnamese
tourists abroad. Therefore, I was determined to enhance my English skills
to achieve this goal. Like many others, I encountered many difficulties at
first, such as balancing work and study, setting up a regular practice
routine every single day, and even battling with the idea of waking up
early to study or continuing to sleep.

In the first few weeks, I felt really tired, but when I thought of the image
that I confidently guided international tours, I regained my motivation
and continued practicing. After the first month, I found that I could
communicate at a basic level, which made me feel very happy and
excited. Then, I became more enthusiastic about learning English. As a
result, after three months, I could confidently communicate and present in
front of friends and teachers. Currently, I am preparing for the Aptis
exam to obtain the international tour guide license.
In my opinion, difficulties and challenges are the steps that take us to a
higher level both in our careers and in our personal growth. As long as we
face them directly, always focus on our goals, and persevere in our daily
efforts, we will absolutely overcome them soon. So, never give up!

A TIME YOU HELPED SOMEONE

Recently, I helped a lost visitor in HCMC. It was a regular afternoon

when I was walking around District 1, I saw an old man, around 60 years
old, asking for directions. He looked confused, so I went up to him and
asked if he needed help. He told me he lost the card for his hotel and only
remembered its name. Luckily, I knew the hotel he meant. We found a
taxi, and I helped him get back to his hotel. He was really thankful, and
he called me later to say thanks again. It made me feel good to help him
out. I realized how much a small act of kindness can mean to someone. It
wasn't just about giving directions; it was about making him feel safe and
supported in a strange place. And it taught me how to deal with
unexpected situations better.

To help someone well, it's important to pay attention and listen carefully
to what they need. Then, we can use our skills and experiences to give
them the right help. And sometimes, it's okay to ask others for help too.
This experience reminded me how showing kindness and understanding
can make a big difference in someone's day, even if we don't speak the
same language or come from the same place

A TIME YOU GOT AN IMPORTANT EMAIL

The important email that I remember the most was when the university
told me I could join the tourism program four years ago. It was a big
happiness for me because I had worked so hard for it. When I got the
email, I felt super happy and excited. I quickly told my family and friends
about it, and they were really happy for me too. My family and friends
held a party to celebrate my achievement. We had a lot of fun together,
and everyone wished me good luck for the future.

I wanted to remember that moment forever, so I took a picture of the

email and posted it on Facebook. It was nice to share my happiness with
everyone. I feel proud of my achievement because I've put a lot of effort
into preparing for the exams. Getting all the nice messages from my
friends and family made me even happier.

Nowadays, there is a lot of information available on the internet. With

just a click, we can update ourselves with a lot of news from within the
country and around the world. I think this is very good and suitable for
the development of modern society because people need to constantly
update information to serve their work and studies. However, we also
need to be cautious of negative news without clear sources, and especially
children need guidance in searching for information online by adults.

A TIME YOU SAVED UP TO BUY SOMETHING

Did you save up to buy something for yourself?

Yes, I saved up to buy a new phone a few months ago. My old phone was
slow and didn’t have enough storage, so I needed an upgrade. Instead of
buying it right away, I decided to save a little money each month. It
wasn’t easy at first because I had other expenses, but I stayed focused on
my goal. After a few months of careful saving, I finally had enough to
buy the phone I really wanted. It felt amazing to walk into the store and
buy it.

How did you feel?

I felt really proud when I bought the phone. It was exciting to know that I
saved up and didn’t just buy it right away. The phone worked better, and I
knew I made a smart choice by waiting. It taught me that saving is worth
it in the end. I felt happy and satisfied with my decision.

People spend too much money on trivial items. What do you think?

I think it’s true that people often spend too much on things they don’t
really need. It’s easy to buy small things without thinking about how
much it adds up. Instead, saving money for something more important or
useful is a better idea. Being careful with spending can help avoid
wasting money. In the long run, it’s more rewarding to save for
something meaningful.
