LTE Frame
LTE uses OFDM technology to divide a wider BW into narrow band orthogonal sub-carriers ( 15 KHz) to decrease transfer
delay.

Tejas Networks Limited 2024. All rights reserved. 5

Resource Block
Smallest unit that is allocated to user.

Resource Block (RB)

12 Subcarriers X 7 Symbols(NCP)

1 RB
Time domain = 0.5 ms
Frequency domain = 180 kHz ( 15KHzX12 Sub carriers)

Channel BW 5 MHz 10 MHz 20 MHz

Occupied BW 4.5 MHz 9 MHz 18 MHz

No. of Sub Carrier 300 600 1200

Resource Block 25 50 100

• For any system, throughput is calculated as symbols per second. Further, it is converted into bits per second
depending on how many bits a symbol can carry.
• For 64 QAM ( 6 bits) ,
No. of Symbols = 16800 X 6 = 100800 symbols/ msec
Throughput = 100.8 Mbps

For 256 QAM ( 8 bits) =134.4 Mbps
