CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM

This chapter presents the introduction as an overview of what the study is

all about to show its importance, the Scope Delimitation and Limitation of the

Study, the Objective of the Study, significance of the study and definition of

terms.

Introduction

Herbal soap is a natural substitute for conventional soap, which is often

made with botanical herbs and plant-based ingredients. Its popularity is

increasing due to its skin-friendly and environmentally conscious qualities. Since

it does not contain harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances, it is especially good

for people with sensitive skin. Additionally, because it uses natural ingredients, it

is an eco-friendly option that appeals to people looking for a gentler and more

sustainable personal care product. Herbal soap is cruelty-free because it is made

without the use of any animal products or by-products, making it a

compassionate and ethical choice for ethical consumers.

Body soap is a daily essential for hygiene, but there are often serious

health and environmental issues associated with its manufacture, usage, and

disposal. numerous localities, especially those in rural regions like Brgy. Mass-

produced commercial soaps, which frequently contain synthetic ingredients and

are packaged in plastic, are the most widely used soap products in Pook ni Banal

San Pascual. The harsh compounds like parabens, sulfates, and artificial scents

found in many commercial soaps cause health problems such as skin irritation

and allergic reactions (Aksenova et al., 2020). Furthermore, because so much of

the packaging for personal care goods is not biodegradable and ends up in

landfills or the ocean, the overuse of plastic packaging has made the worldwide

plastic pollution problem worse.

SCOPE, DELIMITATION, AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The study focused on the senior high school students’ manifestations of

learning competencies based on Araling Panlipunan goals. (ITO YUNG

TITLE) The study ascertained the extent of the utilization of pedagogical

approaches in Araling Panlipunan relative to constructivist, inquiry-based,

reflective, collaborative, and integrative. The paper also assessed the

students’ extent of manifestation of learning competencies in Araling

Panlipunan based on the AP Goals, namely, analytical, nationalistic,

caring for humanity, and appreciation for current and social issues. In line

with this, it also determined the significant relationship between the extent

of utilization of pedagogical approaches and students’ manifestation of

competencies. Lastly, classroom exercises were prepared to further

develop the students’ competencies in Araling Panlipunan. ( ITO YUNG

Researchers utilized a qualitative research design to collect the

data necessary for the completion of the study. The researchers selected

senior high school HUMSS students from Bauan Technical Integrated

High School. The data collected was validated and depicted through a

interview (pwede ring Focus Group discussion). The researchers limited

this study to the senior high school HUMSS students from grades 11 and

12 at Bauan Technical Integrated High School only and did not include

the junior high school or other strands.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The result of this study will benefited the following:

Students.This study will help the students to attend their class regularly since
this will provide information about the benefits that they can acquire in-
attending school. This students would be able to go to school on time. They
would become more responsible.

Teachers. They could help each other in implementing plans in helping the
students to attend the school and will be equipped with scientific research
thus they can treat this problem objectively

Parents and Guardians. Parents and Guardians could encourage, the

children to go to school, it is also to know how their children behave at
school,likewise, this would give them the opportunity to help, guide their
children in leading with problems that may affect performance especially with
regards to their academics.

Future Researcher.The conducted studies will further open doors for future
researchers to refine and expand studies in relation to cutting classes. This
may serve as a source of information about what provokes students to cut
class on an individual’s academic perform

DEFINITION OF TERMS

. For better understanding of the content of the study, the following terms

are hereby provided with the conceptual and operational definitions

Consumption. Consumption refers to the act of using or consuming a product or

service. It reflects the extent to which individuals use or purchase goods, such as

soap, in their daily lives(Gerarld,2019). In this study, consumption will refer to the

frequency and quantity of soap used by participants.

Handmade. Handmade refers to products that are crafted by hand rather than

being mass-produced by machines(Santos,2023). In this study, handmade will

refer to soap produced manually in small batches by individuals or local artisans,

without the use of industrial machinery.

Health Implications. Health implications refer to the potential effects that a

product or behavior can have on an individual's physical, mental, or emotional

well-being(Gupta,2023). In this study, health implications will refer to any effects,

both beneficial or harmful, observed in participants after using organic soap.

Soap. Soap is a substance used for cleaning the skin, often consisting of fats or

oils mixed with an alkaline solution (such as sodium hydroxide), which undergoes

a chemical reaction called saponification. Soap helps to remove dirt, oils, and

impurities from the skin(Adalis,2022). In this study, soap will specifically refer to

homemade organic soap, produced using natural, organic ingredients (e.g., oils,

herbs, and essential oils) without synthetic additives.

Body Skin Dryness. Body skin dryness refers to the condition in which the skin

loses its moisture and becomes dehydrated, leading to symptoms such as

tightness, rough texture, flakes, and visible dry patches(Broklyn,2024). In this

study, body skin dryness will be measured by participant self-reports on skin

texture, moisture levels, and visible dryness in various body areas (e.g., arms,

legs, back).

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter of the paper presents the review of related literature, the

conceptual framework, the research hypotheses, and the definition of terms.

Related Literature

Body skin dryness, also known as xerosis, is a common dermatological

condition that results from a lack of moisture in the skin, leading to symptoms

such as tightness, flaking, rough texture, and itching. It is caused by a

combination of environmental factors, such as cold weather and low humidity,

which impair the skin’s ability to retain moisture. Additionally, frequent exposure

to harsh chemicals found in commercial skincare products, like sodium lauryl

sulfate (SLS) and parabens, further strips the skin of its natural oils, exacerbating

dryness. Internal factors, such as aging, where the skin’s sebum production

decreases, or underlying health conditions like eczema and psoriasis, can also

lead to chronic dry skin. According to Madison (2019), as people age, their skin’s

ability to replenish moisture diminishes, making them more susceptible to skin

dryness. Research by Badran et al. (2020) highlights that the prevalence of

xerosis is widespread, particularly in colder climates and among populations with

limited access to quality skincare products, which is the case for many rural

communities, including Pook Ni Banal in San Pascual.

CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter outlines the methods and procedures used to conduct the

study, focusing on the population, sampling, data collection, and statistical

treatment. The goal is to ensure that the data gathered is accurate, reliable.

Research Design

The study employed an experimental research design. Quanlitative

research is appropriate as it enables the collection of measurable data to assess

the community's attitudes, behaviors, and perceptions regarding soap usage. A

analytic approach will help document and analyze current practices, health

implications, environmental concerns, and the feasibility of homemade soap.

The researcher used this design to gather data about participants' Skin

implications and complication offering insights into the connections between the

variables.

Subjects of the study

The study focuses on the residents of Pook ni Banal, San Pascual, as its

target population, particularly those aged 18-25 years old who experience body

skin dryness and are open to sustainable alternatives like organic soap. An

data. A sample size of 120 participants was determined to balance the need for

comprehensive insights with the constraints of time and resources. Ethical

considerations, such as informed consent and participant confidentiality, were

strictly observed. This approach ensures the study effectively explores the

potential impact of organic soap on addressing body skin dryness and promoting

sustainability within the community.

Research Instruments

The study will utilize interviews as the main tool for data collection. The

questionnaire will gather demographic information, such as age, gender, and

soap consumption habits. It will also include Likert scale items to assess

respondents' perceptions of commercial soaps and their attitudes toward

homemade alternatives, focusing on health, environmental, and economic

benefits.
