C.R.E END OF TERM III EXAM 2024


SENIOR THREE
Paper 223/1
Time: 2 hours 30 minutes

Instructions:
 Answer four questions
 Section A is compulsory
 Section B has two parts: I and II, answer one item from each part.

SECTION A
Answer all questions
ITEM 1
Joel a 29 year old, was a street preacher around clock tower for 10 years. Two
months ago he was approached by a well-wisher who offered him a piece of land
to build on a church. Through friends and other well-wishers, a church was built,
received chairs, loud speakers, keyboard and drums.
In July, this year he came up with a church program that included overnight
prayers every Friday.
However, some neighbors approached him requesting him to relocate his church
since the speakers were too loud.
TASK:
(a) As a Christian why did Joel come up with such a program at his church?
(b) In your opinion, explain the possible way of preventing such a situation?
ITEM II
Mr. Wanyeze grew up in a Christian family in such he was greatly committed to
the worship of God as a child although his grandfather worshiped ancestors.
During his university study he interacted with different religious groups. Now after
his education, his grandfather persuades him to join the ancestor worship.
TASK
(a) As a student of C.R.E, explain the values Wanyeze’s grandparents should
embrace without inflicting with his grandson.
(b) Relate the Christian approach to African traditional ways of worship.

SECTION B
PART I
ITEM 3
Yeye is an old man, once a wrestler, he says that during their time winning a
competition, one had to work very hard. He won several competitions and was
rewarded pieces of land and also young girls after winning, he would celebrate
with his supporters by taking local beer and dancing. Different serving points was
organized as a way of classifying the married and unmarried.
TASK

(a) Explain the values Traditional Africans attached to various form of leisure
they enjoyed.
(b) As a Christian how would people in your community enjoy their leisure?

ITEM 4

Mark and his friends are rich and wealthy. They own cars, buildings and live good
life. It has been found out that they get their riches through activities such as
stealing, scarifying human etc. Recently, a church in their neighborhood begun
constructing and they invited mark and his friend to give assistance. An idea that
they see as a wastage of time.
TASK:

(a) Using the Christian views, explain the ways Christians can use their wealth
for development.
(b) Basing on the African Traditional approach, how best can mark and his
friends acquire wealth?

PART II

ITEM 5

Dr. Bugembe works in Kampala hospital, he comes early and leaves late, he is very
committed to his work but he is paid little salary. He tried talking to his boss but
instead he threaten to fire him from the job. So Dr. Bugembe has resorted to
carrying out abortion to earn more money.

TASK:

(a) Using the Christian view how can the scenario help the employers to make
work enjoyable?
(b) Basing on the contemporary approach, explain the work ethics Dr.
Bugembe and his boss could have taken up.

ITEM 6

A Samaritan woman came to draw some water and Jesus said to her “give me a
drink of water”, the woman answered, “you are a Jew and I am a Samaritan so how
can you ask me for a drink?” Jesus answered, “If you only know what God gives
and who it is that is asking you for a drink, you would ask him and he would give
you life-giving water”. “Sir”, the woman said “you don’t have a bucket, and the
well is deep, where would you get that life-giving water...” Jesus answered “those
who drink this water will never get thirsty again”. The woman said “sir give me
this water that I will never get thirsty again”.
TASK

(a) As a C.R.E student, explain the lessons you learn from Jesus’s conversation
with the Samaritan woman.
(b) How should modern people in your community treat each other as derived
from the text above?
