Frequently Asked Questions in respect of a 3 – Year Internship Programme

1. Who qualifies to be the host employer?
Any registered company private and public i.e SMEs, Corporate private companies,
Municipalities, State-owned entities and agencies, TVET Colleges, Community Colleges, NPOs,
COBs, Trade Unions, Employer organisations and associations across all sectors of the economy.

2. Which fields of study or occupations are covered on this internship programme?


All fields of study or occupations as long as the candidate meets the criteria i.e in possession of
the post matric qualification.

3. Which sectors / industries is this internship programme meant for?


The internship is open to employers in all industries across all sectors of the economy.

4. What are the requirements for hosting interns?


Host employers will be subject to either physical or desktop due diligence evaluation by Konke
Business Solutions to establish the capacity of the host employer prior to allocation of interns. The
due diligence will focus on the following areas of capacity:
 legality and authenticity of the host employer;
 physical workspace;
 access to resources for the interns;
 mentorship and supervision of interns;
 communication channels;
 occupational health and safety compliance of the host employer.

5. How many interns can one host employer apply for?


There is no limit on the number on interns that the host employer can apply for, however the
number of learners allocated to the host employer will be based on the capacity of the host
employer in consideration of the factors mentioned above, including the mentorship and
supervision capacity at a mentor / learner ratio of 1:3

6. We have branches across South Africa can we spread the learner across the branches?
Yes, but the host employer must indicate when submitting the EOI, the province(s) or
branches(s) where learners will be hosted and the host employer may not rotate the learners
between provinces during the internship programme.

7. How does the employer submit the Expression of Interest?

8. When will we know about the outcome of our EOI?


By no later than 28.02.2025
9. How long is the internship programme?
Three years from April / May 2025

10. To whom will the graduates be contracted?


Graduates will be contracted by and report to Konke Business Solutions through the host
employer for all administrative purposes and will report directly to the host employer for all
operational purposes. Host employer will be expected to induct the graduates and introduce them
to the company policies and procedures.

11. Who will be paying the stipend?


The funder will pay the stipend Konke Business Solutions on a monthly basis and Konke
Business Solutions will disburse the stipend directly into the learner’s verified baking details by no
later than the last working day of the month. The stipend will be paid by the last working day of
each month.

12. How much is the stipend per month?


R 6 000.00 per month

13. Who will cover the PPE?


Where applicable, the PPE will be the responsibility of the host employer.

14. Who will be paying for the uif?


Konke Business Solutions will declare the learners with the UIF monthly and pay the UIF
contributions to SARS through submission of monthly EMP201.

15. Who will be covering the learners in respect of COIDA ?


Konke Business Solutions will be responsible for COIDA claims, however host employer bears the
full responsibility of providing a “hazard-free” workplace and report the workplace incident to
Konke Business Solutions.

16. Is there any financial contribution required from the host employer?
We encourage the host employer(s) to top-up the stipend only if they can afford, but this is not
compulsory.

17. Does the host employer receive any financial reward for hosting the interns?
There are no fees payable to the host employer for hosting the learners/ graduates.

18. Can I recruit my own interns and have them registered on the programme for funding purposes?
Yes as long as they meet the criteria and are currently not participating on a SETA funded
internship programme of any kind.

19. I have volunteering graduates, can I register them on the programme for funding purposes?
Yes provided that they have not been volunteering for more than six months and you will be
required to sign a commitment to absorb at least 50% of the interns on completion of the
internship programme.
