EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In a highly competitive market for both customers and talented staff, a strategic management is the current Holy Grail to achieve the goals. Those companies who believe in change management are growing in market. It is very necessary to understand the requirements of the market and keep surprising the market with the high quality and innovative patterns of tires. Earlier GPS2,GT3,Kelley and Wrangler were the only patterns available in the market . But as Goodyear spend $4000 million on the research of new patterns and development of the existing patterns has made Goodyear to come up with high performance tires like Ducaro Hi Miler , Duraplus (a tire which promises life of 1,00,000 Kms) , Assurance , Assurance Fuel Max , Eagle F1 ,Eagle NCT5 and a premium class tire Excellence. Here , we are just focusing on a single state of India i.e Karnataka.There are three major mini chains of tire dealers operating in Karnataka: Cherry Agencies Madhus Tyre Centre, Bangalore Madhus Tyre Care , Mysore
Cherry Agencies owns six counters in Karnataka placed nicely at very good locations in terms of visibility and the target customers, Madhus Tyre Centre, Bangalore has three counters in Bangalore operating at good locations and Madhus Tyre Care, Mysore also has three counters in Mysore city at various good markets . We are planning to increase the Share of Business of Goodyear tires at all these counters by doing various influencing factors detailed study of their counter and organizing various aggressive marketing activities to achieve the set goal of the year.
CHAPTER 1 OBJECTIVE
To Increase the share of business (SoB) of Goodyear tires(Passenger Car Redials) in Karnataka by activation of BTL(below the line activity). And to make the people aware about the new product, pattern of good year tyres .
CHAPTER 2 INTRODUCTION
Looking back, the founding of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in 1898 seems especially remarkable, for the beginning was anything but auspicious. The 38-year-old founder, Frank A. Seiberling, purchased the companys first plant with a $3,500 down payment -- using money he borrowed from a brother-in-law Lucius C. Miles. The rubber and cotton that were the lifeblood of the industry had to be transported from halfway around the world, to a landlocked town that had only limited rail transportation. Even the man the companys name memorialized, Charles Goodyear, had died penniless 30 years earlier despite his discovery of vulcanization after a long and courageous search.
Yet the timing couldn't have been better. The bicycle craze of the 1890s was booming. The horseless carriage, some ventured to call it the automobile, was a wide-open challenge. Even the depression of 1893 was beginning to fade. So on August 29, 1898, Goodyear was incorporated with a capital stock of $100,000. David E. Hill, who purchased $30,000 of stock, became the first president. But it was the dynamic and visionary founder, hard-driving Seiberling, who chose the name and determined the distinctive trademark. The winged-foot trademark, inspired by a newel-post statuette of Mercury in the Seiberling home, has been altered over the years. Yet, it remains an integral part of the Goodyear signature, a symbolic link with the companys historic past.
Something else about these legendary early years lingers on through Goodyears history. Something elusive and intangible, yet very real. Something about the people. People like Seiberling, actually trying to liquidate family-owned property in 1898 when he ended up taking that once-in-a-lifetime chance to buy -- at a bargain -- the seven-acre tract that became Goodyear. People like George M. Stadelman, a man who avoided crowds and never made a speech, yet had a gift of integrity and foresight that guided Goodyears sales through a critical 20 years. People like Paul W. Litchfield, whose conviction and leadership helped inspire Goodyears development for nearly six decades. With just 13 employees, Goodyear production began on November 21, 1898, with a product line of bicycle and carriage tires, horseshoe pads and -- fitting the gamble Seiberling was making -- poker chips. The first recorded payroll amounted to $217.86 based on the prevailing wage of 13 to 25 cents an hour for a 10-hour day. After the first full month of business, sales amounted to $8,246. Since the first bicycle tire in 1898, Goodyear pedaled its way toward becoming the worlds largest tire company, a title it earned in 1916 when it adopted the slogan "More people ride on Goodyear tires than on any other kind," becoming the worlds largest rubber company in 1926.
Today, Goodyear measures sales of nearly $20 billion, although it took 53 years before the company reached the first billion-dollar-year milestone. And it all began in a converted strawboard factory on the
banks of the Little Cuyahoga River in East Akron, Ohio. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research:
It is the process of arriving at dependable solutions of problems through the planned and systematic collection, analysis & interpretation of data. Research methodology is a systematic method of discovering new facts or verifying old facts, their sequences their relationships, casual explanation and the natural laws to govern them. When proper methods are adapted it would lead to number of advantages, like time saving, accurate results and fine suggestions. Here two research methodologies are used one is Descriptive research and second is Applied research. In descriptive research we will find out the problem existing in the way of growth of Goodyear share of business at various counters in Karnataka. In this we do survey and enquiries to gather the information. And, in Applied research we will find the solutions for the problems and design a activity calendar to solve the problem and increase the market share of Goodyear.
METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION:
Primary sources: This method of data collection involves the enquiries, surveys and personal interaction with the customers for the information.

MECHANIC REFFRAL MODEL
Here in this model, i have went to different mechanic shops have explain them about the product and pattern which we are having in good year have almost covered a good amount mechanic shops. And we got a positive feedback and also a good amount of business from the mechanics. They almost gave us business of 200 tyres in a month. This thing from the mechanic side was not expected, but happened.
FLEET ACTIVITY
Fleets are the big fishes, and we know that if we have to survive in this competitive world then we have to track all this big fishes. Fleets have a capacity of giving a big amount of demand at a particular time. In this activity we have tracked a lot of new fleets ,the big one is infant travels , which is one of the biggest fleet in Bangalore. 1. they have ,400 Tata sumo. 2.250 Mahindra xylo . 3.300 Toyota innova. 4.400 Tata winger. 5.200 tempo traveler.
CONSUMER AWARENESS ACTIVITY..
This type of activity was specially organized to make the people aware about good year and his products and pattern. Where in this activity we have directly gone to the customer and had a one to one discussion, we have explained them about the new product of good year and their patterns ,we also explained them about the benefits of the new patterns. This type of activity was specially done for an immediate business, which we got in a huge amount. In a short span of time we got a big amount of business because of this activity only.
CORPORATE CONNECT
It was a plan initiated by rahul sir.in this plan we have to first collect the data of the companies their phone number and their address. then we have to call them and fix the appointment. after that we have to go to the companies to give out our presentation. This was a plan specially planed for the corporate people, in other words we can also tell it as a value addition program for the big corporate .this plan in return gave us a lot and big amount of business in a short time of span.
PARKING LOT ACTIVITY..
The word parking itself says that we have done this activity in a parking area, well thats true here in this activity we have gone to the different parking spaces . To do this kind of activity in a parking space was not a easy task, but we pleased the owner of the parking space . so due to which we had a direct face to face interaction with the customer, where we have explained them about the new products and patterns of good year tyres, and their benefits. This parking lot activity was a great success for good year tyres, because here directly we have explained to the customer that which tyre is best suited for his car.
123 MODEL ACTIVITY.
123 model is nothing but a activity which is based on secondary data, it is basically a kind of sms campgin.where we have to punched down the details of thousand of coustmer.to whom we would give a reminder message that your car needs a change for tyres. and through this only we can explain them about the new pattern and product of good year and their usage.
CONDUCTED MECHANIC MEET.
this was lucky for me that good year company gave me a chance to conduct mechanic meet, here to conduct this mechanic meet I have went mechanic shops where i have gave them the invitation and explained them that what will happen in the meet In respond to this invitation a lot of mechanic owner turned up to the meet. Where we explained them about the new patterns and product and how can a tyre is used up to a good use. The best part of this meet was that ,the very next day we got a order of 50 tyres from bosch service station. And we also got some small orders from other mechanic shops.
PETROL PUMP ACTIVITY..
Petrol pump activity was not an easy activity to be done; we have faced a lot challenges to conduct this activity. Here to conduct this activity first we have to take approval from the concerned authority of the petrol pump. Then after this we have to track those people whose car needs a change for the tyres, and then directly we have to approach them with the product and their pattern. This activity had a direct impact on the mind of customers, because we told them about the negative things of using worn out tyres.and it was a granted place where we can track our desired amount of customers.

CHAPTER 5 FINDINGS
Counter share of Goodyear can be increased by 50% at all the counters in Karnataka by using the Below The Line Activities like campaigning, leaflet distribution and sales staff training.
After activation of 123 models the sales of good year at Karnataka can increase by 20%. Mechanic referral model can play an important role in the increase sales for good year tyers. A direct connection with the fleet owners can increase the sales. The corporate connect plan can increase the sales by 30%. We have to promote new product more because the quality is too good, and it can result in the increase of sales.
CHAPTER 6 RECOMMENDATIONS
All counters all potential counters so, all should be taken care individually instead of a collective decision for them.
The activities planned should be executed in proper manner else they can have the irreversible tempering of Goodyear image in market .
Staff at the counters must cooperate with the Goodyear company people to understand the marketing concepts for specific premium patterns.
The printing material and the gifts of discount schemes should maintain a quality of product . The data collected from the dealers should be cross checked using the information from the billing counter of Goodyear stock.
Goodyear must come up with the seasonal gift which exactly helps the customer in brand recall and generate a market pull of the product.
As Goodyear price is comparable comfortable to the customers in comparison with other competing brands ,so this benefit should be utilized properly to increase the market share of Goodyear .
The promotion campaigns for the newly launched patterns should be done repeatedly for the brand positioning and awareness about the new pattern and its benefits.
Neat and clean dressing of staff will give a better impact on the customers at counter , this is sometime a issue with most of the premium customers.
Some selling schemes for the dealers should also be designed to keep them motivated for selling Goodyear tires at their counters .
CHAPTER 7 CONCLUSION
After the activation of BTL activity, the sales of good year tyres has been increased by a good rate. But, this kind of activity has to be done on a regular basis, then only the desired goal can be achieved. And mainly we should focus on one-to-one interaction, because it gives us immediate result. And we should make the people aware about the new product and patterns of good years tyre.
