To obtain a duplicate vehicle owner certificate (also known as a duplicate

registration certificate) for a motorcycle from the Department of Motor

Traffic (DMT) in Sri Lanka, follow these steps:

1. Report the Loss to the Police

- If the original certificate is lost, stolen, or damaged, you must first file
a complaint at the nearest police station.

- Obtain a Police Report (also called a "B Report") regarding the loss or
damage.

2. Prepare Required Documents

- Original Police Report (if the certificate is lost or stolen).

- National Identity Card (NIC) or a valid form of identification.

- Copy of the Lost Certificate (if available).

- Revenue License (if available).

- Completed Application Form (available at the DMT or online).

3. Visit the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT)

- Go to the nearest DMT office. The main office is in Werahera,

Boralesgamuwa, but regional offices may also provide this service.

- Submit the required documents to the relevant counter.

4. Pay the Fee

- Pay the prescribed fee for issuing a duplicate certificate. The fee may
vary depending on the type of vehicle and the urgency of the request.

- Keep the payment receipt as proof.

5. Collect the Duplicate Certificate

- After processing, you will be issued a duplicate vehicle owner

certificate.

- The processing time may vary, but it is usually issued on the same day
or within a few days.

6. Additional Notes

- If the motorcycle is under a lease or hire purchase agreement, you

may need a letter of consent from the leasing company.
- If you are unable to visit the DMT in person, you may authorize
someone else to handle the process on your behalf with a signed
authorization letter.

7. Online Services (if available)

- Check if the DMT offers online services for duplicate certificates. Some
processes may be initiated online, but you may still need to visit the office
to complete the process.
