Students should be prohibited from bringing cell phones to school, although many people
believe that these phones have benefits for students. However, in my opinion, although cell
phones have a positive side, for example in general the benefits obtained from using
cellphones are to make it easier for students to learn. It should not be the main reason that
students are allowed to bring cell phones at school.

By bringing gadgets to school, it can distract students while they are studying, because not all
students are serious and honest when using cell phones in class. There are some students
who unlock other features that don’t even have any benefit for their learning. As a result,
students who bring cell phones into the classroom may not pay attention to what their teacher
is teaching. For example, when the teacher asks students to open journals or sources related
to the material being discussed, at first they may look for the material. However, there is no
guarantee that if students continue to open and read the material, they may turn to
applications or other features that can distract them while learning is in progress. A study
conducted by Bilgrim University in 2020 reported that students’ low achievement is related
to their concentration while studying. The more students concentrate, the better their score
will be.

Although the use of mobile phones has benefits, one of the main benefits of using mobile
phones in the classroom is access to various learning materials. With mobile phones,
teachers can easily explain a material to students because when connected to the Internet,
gadgets allow students to download material or information such as videos from various
sources related to the material being taught. For example, when I study English speaking
class, the teacher asks us to watch a video from you tube to learn how native speakers use the
sentence orally and then we practice so that students can easily understand the material.
In conclusion, the use of cellphones in schools should not be allowed because it has a
negative impact on students including distracting students and the misuse of cellphones in
schools. Although cell phones can help in the learning process, this can be overcome by
using learning media such as laptops and infocus. Teachers can play learning videos as well
as journals or learning materials so that all students can see even if they are not using a cell
phone. However, if the teacher or school does not have complete learning media. This can
be overcome by the teacher playing the video on his cellphone or laptop and then showing it
to the students.
