D. Answer the following questions:---
1. Ans:-- hardware refers to the physical part of the computer which we can touch. Ex:-- monitor,
keyboard,mouse etc, whereas software refers to the set of computer programs for effective running of a
computer system.Ex:-- MS Office, windows, chrome etc.
2. Ans:--- hardware:-- hardware refers to the physical part of the computer which we can touch. Hardware can
be classified as internal and external. Internal hardwares are those that resides inside the computer.
External hardwares are those that connect to the outside of the computer case.
The various forms of internal hardware are as follows:--
a) Motherboard:--- it is a circuit board that houses most of the internal components like memory card,
sound card, graphics card etc.
b) The processor:-- it is a computer chip that carries out instructions given by computer programs.
c) RAM:-- RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It deals with temporary data request such as keeping
windows open or just viewing a file.
d) Hard disk drive:-- it is a permanent data storage unit of computer. Hard disk retain data even if the
machine shuts down unexpectedly .
e) CD ROM drive:--- It is a drive that reads compact disk only. Now a days it can also read DVD. It uses laser
beam to read the data on the disk.
f) Power supply:--- The power supply unit converts the mains AC electricity into DC electricity.
g) Graphics card:-- graphics card is a type of expansion card that processes and produces output for
display. it is a crucial component for the monitor.
The various forms of external hardware are as follows:--
a) Monitor:-- it is the display unit of a computer.
b) Keyboard:-- keyboard is the main way of typing on computer.
c) Mouse:--- mouse is the primary way of navigating a computer.
d) Printer:-- it can print anything created on a PC, whether it is text or photos.
e) Microphone ( mic ):-- it provides audio input to the computer.
f) Graphics tablet:-- it is an input device, which is used to make digital artwork easier.
g) Light pen:-- it is an input device that uses light sensitive detector to select objects on a computer display.
h) Webcam:-- it is a video camera connected to the computer. It can be used for off line capture of images and
videos. It is also used for online video conference.
i) Scanner:-- it is a device that capture images from posters or pages and used for computer editing and display.
3. Short notes:---
a. Blue ray disk:--- it is a data storage unit, that looks similar to DVD. It offers more than five times storage
capacity of DVDs.
b. RAM:-- RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is a temporary data storage unit. It deals with
keeping windows open and just viewing a file.
c. Graphics card:-- graphics card is a type of expansion card that processes and produces output for
display. it is a crucial component for the monitor.

d) Touchpad:-- it is used for pointing and navigating on a PC like a mouse.
e) Light pen:-- it is an input device that uses light sensitive detector to select objects on a computer display.
f) Digital camera:-- it is a camera that produces digital images which can be stored in a computer,
displayed on screen and printed.
g) Webcam:-- it is a video camera connected to the computer. It can be used for off line capture of images
and videos. It is also used for online video conference.
h) Scanner:-- it is a device that capture images from posters or pages and used for computer editing and
display.
i) MICR:--- it stands for magnetic Ink character recognition. It is a technology which allows machines to
read and process cheques for transaction of money.
5. Explain the following devices:---
a) Printer:-- it can print anything created on a PC, whether it is text or photos. Printers use either liquid ink
or laser technology. Besides printing, they are also used to copy text, scanning etc.
b) DVD:--- DVD is an optical disk with 4.7 GB storage capacity. It was developed by Philips, sony, Toshiba
and Panasonic in 1995. DVDs are widely used for storing and viewing movies and other data.
c) Pen drive:--- pen drive is a small storage device . it connects to a computer by a USB port.
6. Write in brief:---
a. Magnetic stripe reader:---- It is also known as magstripe reader or swipe machine. It is a hardware
device that reads the information in the magnetic stripe of an ATM card.
b. Webcam:--- it is a video camera connected to the computer. It can be used for off line capture of images
and videos. It is also used for online video conference. Many computers and laptops have built-in
webcams.
c. Modem:---- modem is a device that connects our computer to the internet. It enables a computer to
transmit data over cable lines. The word ‘modem’ is derived from the term modulator-demodulator. The
information is stored digitally, but the information is transmitted in the form of analog signals.
d. Ports:-- port is also known as jack. a port is an interface between one computer to another computer.
Mainly used port is the USB port to connect multiple devices.
