If there is no vacant seat available in any specific B.A. Multidisciplinary
Course subject then the college will have the right to ask the candidates to
re-register and select from available general subjects.

Each student of B.A./ B. Sc. (Honours/ Major/ Core Vocational/


Multidisciplinary) courses has to study Inter Disciplinary Course (IDC) in
Semesters I, II and III. They have to select a subject in each Semester from
the following list other than the subjects they have opted as Honours/ Major/
Core Vocational/ Minor Subjects.
IDC (SEMESTER 1) – Any ONE from Education, Bengali, Library &
Information Studies, Botany, Economics, Political Science. (the subject
chosen as IDC cannot be a subject chosen as Honours/ Major/ Core
Vocational/ Minor subjects)

IDC (SEMESTER II) – Any ONE from Electronics, Geography, Journalism


& Mass Communication, Philosophy, Zoology. (the subject chosen as IDC
cannot be a subject chosen as Honours/ Major/ Core Vocational/ Minor
subjects)
IDC (SEMESTER III) – Any ONE from Chemistry, English, History,
Physiology, Statistics, Sociology. (the subject chosen as IDC cannot be a
subject chosen as Honours/ Major/ Core Vocational/ Minor subjects)

B.Com. Course (similar to B.Com. General Course)


All subjects prescribed by the affiliating university in the Finance & Accounting
Group.

ELIGIBILITY
1. A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent
Examination is eligible to seek admission to the 1st year of the Four-year
B.A./B.Sc./B.Com (Honours and/or Honours with Research ) Courses of
Studies provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks not being
less than 100.
2. Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational
examination conducted by the “West Bengal State Council of Vocational
Education and Training” shall be eligible to seek admission to the B.A.
Multidisciplinary 1st year Course of Studies taking the subjects under
Humanities Division only.

3. Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational


Examination in Business & Commerce conducted by the “West Bengal State
Council of Vocational Education and Training” shall be eligible to seek
admission to the Three-year B.Com. Course of Studies under this University.
4. A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must have obtained:
(i) A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or
related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
Or
(ii) 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying
examination.
Or

(iii) 50% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject
in his/her previous qualifying examination provided all other clauses are
satisfied. [(iii) does not apply for B. Com. Hons. Course]
However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe
Community taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum
of 40% marks in the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects
at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be.
5. A candidate taking up Honours Course with Core Vocational Subject must have
obtained:
A minimum of 45% marks in the aggregate at the previous qualifying
examination.

However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe


Community taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum
of 40% marks in the aggregate at the previous qualifying examination.

6. A candidate shall be allowed to take up the subject(s) under heading “A” if


he/she had passed the subject (s) under heading “B” at the previous qualifying
examination:

MERIT INDEX
1. For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the Major Course,
AGGREGATE MARKS SHALL BE CALCULATED BY ADDING THE
MARKS IN TOP-FOUR SUBJECTS in order of marks secured by a
candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education/ Studies
shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the
subject “Environmental Science” is studied as an elective subject of 100
marks, it may be taken into account for the purpose of determining the
aggregate marks.

OTHER CONDITIONS
1. Applicants should have passed in FOUR subjects of 100 marks each and
passed the H. S./ Equivalent examination as a whole.
2. Applicants must have passed in English (at least 100 marks)
3. Applicants of Major subjects having same merit index will be ranked as per
their marks in subject / related subject. If deadlock still persists, candidate
who applied first will be entertained.
4. Candidates must have passed from a Board / Council recognized by the
University of Calcutta.
