Introduction to Social Studies

Social Studies is the study of people in relation to their environment and how they interact. It aims at

understanding society and solving social problems.

Objectives & Importance of Social Studies

Objectives: awareness of societal issues, promoting unity, solving problems. Importance: develops thinking,

promotes values and responsible citizenship.

The Environment - Meaning and Types

Environment includes everything around us. Types: Physical (land, water, air) and Social (people,

relationships, customs).

Components of the Environment

Components include living things (plants, animals) and non-living things (soil, air, water).

Resources in the Environment

Resources include natural (minerals, land) and human (skills, labor).

Social Problems in the Environment

Problems like pollution, drug abuse, deforestation, and cultism.

Causes of Social Problems
