Answer all of the following questions:
Question 1 (Total Mark: 8)
At the instant shown, wheel A rotates with an angular velocity of ω = 6 rad/s and an angular
acceleration of α = 3 rad/s2. Determine the angular acceleration of link BC and the
acceleration of piston C.
Question 2 (Total Mark: 10)
The 100-kg beam BD shown is supported by two rods having negligible mass. Determine
the force developed in each rod, and the angular acceleration of each rod at the at the
instant θ = 30o, ω = 6 rad/s.

Question 3 (Total Mark: 8)
The 20 kg wheel has a radius of gyration about its center O of KO = 300 mm. When the
wheel is subjected to the couple moment, it slips as it rolls. Determine the angular
acceleration of the wheel and the acceleration of the wheel’s center O. The coefficient of
kinetic friction between the wheel and the plane is µk = 0.5.
Question 4 (Total Mark: 8)
The 700-kg pipe is equally suspended from the two tines of the fork lift shown in the
photo. It is undergoing a swinging motion such that when θ = 30 o it is momentarily at rest.
Determine the normal and frictional forces acting on each tine which are needed to support
the pipe at the instant θ = 10o. Measurements of the pipe and the suspender are shown in
Fig. Neglect the mass of the suspender and the thickness of the pipe.
2
Question 5 (Total Mark: 6)
A 30 mm-radius wheel is mounted on an axle OB of length 100 mm. The wheel rolls
without sliding on the horizontal floor, and the axle is perpendicular to the plane of the
wheel. Knowing that the system rotates about the y axis at a constant rate
ω1 = 2.4 rad/s, determine the angular velocity of the wheel.
Good Luck
