Job Description: Backend Engineer (Node.

js + TypeScript | MVP Build)


Job Type: Contract (2–3 months, with potential to extend)

About the Role


We’re looking for a highly-skilled Backend Engineer with deep experience in Node.js and
TypeScript to lead the backend development of our MVP. You’ll work directly with the
founder and CTO to build and ship a scalable, production-ready backend that powers a
React-based frontend. This is a unique opportunity to make foundational architectural
decisions and help shape a fast-moving startup from day one.

What You’ll Do
• Own and develop the entire backend stack for the MVP
• Design and implement database schemas, REST/GraphQL API endpoints, and integration
logic
• Work closely with the founder and future designers/developers to integrate backend
services into a React frontend
• Make scalable, architectural decisions to set the product up for long-term success
• Leverage AI tools to speed up development and automate repetitive tasks (we provide
access)
• Set up staging and production environments (primarily on AWS)
• Contribute light front-end support as needed
• Ensure clean, maintainable, and well-documented code for handoff to future developers
• Help meet aggressive launch goals within 2–3 months

Must-Have Skills
• Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript in a production environment
• Proven experience building and shipping backend applications end-to-end
• Deep understanding of API development, database design, and application architecture
• Backend-first mindset and strong system design skills

Nice-to-Haves
• Experience with Node.js and Prisma ORM
• Familiarity with AWS (Lambda, S3, RDS, etc.)
• Working knowledge of React and frontend integration
• Prior experience in MVP or startup environments
