Extrinsic Motivation In Second Language
Language learners motivation plays a significant role in learning a second language since
persistence and determination are necessary to deal with the stress of a difficult language.
Motivation has been widely accepted by both teachers and researchers as one of the key factors that
influence the rate and success of second language learning(Dörnyei, 2014, p. 1). Motivationanswers
the fundamental question of why people act in a certain way, generating the energy, effort, and
persistence necessary to achieve a design goal at the beginning (Trotsky; Zebra as cited in Dörnyei,
2014, p. 519; Bernard, 2010, p. 4). Extrinsic and intrinsic motivation are two different types of
motivation which have influenced and shaped the foundation of human behavior. In reference to
second language learning, extrinsic motivation is related to external gain which is outside of the
passions and personal self esteem that those people need to obtain and acquire to increase
motivation. Extrinsic motivation in usually driven by the wish to increase future occupation or
business opportunities, while another incentive is to gain more prestige or more power. In contrast,
intrinsic is coming from a personal interest that truly motivates people internally as the more
powerful factor in achieving the goal language. (Giani O Fuinn, 2010, p. 2). Those who set out to
learn without such motivation find it much more difficult to succeed. If they are lacking in
motivation, even individuals with the most
Analysis Of The Movie Babe Ruth
Ebert Analysis
Ebert s contribution to filmmaking as a craft and culture is insuperable. His acumen, dedication,
and spirit brought the long needed life the film has always deserved. Even in death, his blogs and
old reviews still function as a spark of delight to new enthusiasts and seasoned connoisseurs alike.
Through his decades of endeavors in silver screen stardom, Ebert still managed to commit most of
his efforts to giving back to the community through his TV show and reviews. He was a force to be
reckoned in the realm of Film as Babe Ruth was to baseball or Wayne Gretzky was to ice hockey.
Much of Ebert s work was in his reviews, all of which cataloged on his website for what will
probably be around as long as there are still movies or
Marketing Discourse Of South Korea Essay
Ever since the economic boom that South Korea faced due to globalization in the 1990 s, South
Korea has been working on becoming a country on par with other global powers such as Canada
and Australia (John, 2015). South Korea has paid a particular focus since the early 2000 s on
exporting culture to the rest of the world through what is known as the Korean Wave , and South
Korean beauty is no exception to this trend (John, 2015). South Korean beauty has grown its own
niche market in America where people can purchase products either from popular online distributors
such as MEMEBOX, WishTrend, and YesStyle, or from select American outlets such as Sephora,
Urban Outfitters, and Forever21. Beauty from South Koreahas also gained an online presence as
popular online beauty gurus test interesting products from South Korea, and some beauty gurus even
have a focus on South Korean beauty products and trends. My discourse community is the marketing
discourse community within the business sphere, and it focuses on ways to sell products to
customers and make them aware of products that they might like with hopes of increasing the profit
margins of companies. Companies tend to employ multiple types of marketing, including traditional
and word of mouth marketing, but I have focused my research more on the side of traditional
marketing. Traditional marketing includes magazine and newspaper advertisements, television
advertisements, and billboard advertisements. With the increase in
Identity
No person puts themselves in the same category as others, each person has different values and
perceives themselves completely different than everyone else. An identity is the set of
characteristics and the state of being that defines a person and makes them unique. No one decides
for themselves what they value; from birth everyone has choices made for them. Parents choose
how they want to raise their children and where; all of which are factors that decide who each person
is and who they become. The factors that cause for differences in individuals vary, each person is
introduced to distinctive experiences that are unique to that person and allow for that individualto
develop into a unique identity. Ernest Hemingways Indian Camp is about... Show more content on

However these expectations differ for age groups, race, and social order; and being a people
eager to fit in and be accepted, everyone is coerced into following the norms and expectations set
for them. Andrew Sullivan in his article , I Used to Be a Human Being discusses the loss of a
true identity to the new expectations of a developing generation. The people of each generation
allow themselves to be changed and formed into the ideals of their society. Andrew Sullivan talks
about how each person of this new generation is expected to interact with each other in a fashion
so far removed from the past that these new pressures are only relevant to the youth of the
society. Having been born twenty years earlier saved people from the pressures put on these
individuals, seeing as the pressures were created after the identities of the people were created.
The pressures for each generation are different than the generation that came before them, and with
the new pressures and expectations come a new type of people, people who value different things
and act in different manners. As new groups of individuals arise the new expectations expectations,
for how each person should act, rise with them. These people will then raise their children who will
grow up alongside an entirely different set of norms than their parents had, bringing again a new
type of people into society. Anna Garvey in her article, The Oregon Trail Generation: Life Before
and After Mainstream Tech supports this idea. Having been part of a generation in between new and
old values, she got to see first hand how new environments create different pressures and therefore
cause individuals to conform and let themselves be changed by what these new expectations call for.
As an environment changes, the way in which individuals interact with each other changes as well.
The environment that a person is in
Analysis Of The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho
The novel The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho was about a shepherd by the name of Santiago, who
through a dream found where his treasure would lay. The author of the book Paulo Coelho, was
born in Brazil, and has written sixteen books including The Alchemist, and has sold over one
hundred and forty million books worldwide. What attracted me to the novelwas how there were some
supernatural aspects throughout the book. In addition, the supernatural aspects also made the book
more enjoyable to read, because it was different than the typical self discovery novel, there was
something unique about it. I enjoyed the book, and wanted to continue reading, because I was
curious to see what other events would occur throughout his journey, and what... Show more content

A significant factor of the minor characters were to push Santiago forward to look for his treasure
that he dreamt about, even when he felt unmotivated to do so. Also, in the book there was mainly
people that encouraged him to follow after his dreams, there was no significant antagonist who would
discourage himself to not look for treasure, but himself. Santiago is the protagonist of the novel, he
was a shepherd that didn t want to be trapped in the same place for the rest of his life as a priest,
so he left his family to travel around Spain. The protagonist Santiago, was referred to as a boy in
the novel. His age was never told, but we can assume he s a young adult. For example, when he
was sixteen he told his family that he didn t want to be a priest, and when he got his father s
blessing, he became a shepherd and traveled around Spain. Furthermore, Santiago had said in the
beginning how long he was a shepherd, so it leaves the audience to guess that he s around eighteen
or nineteen, of the sheep, with whom he had spent the past two years, leading them through the
countryside... (Coelho 4). His appearance was never described throughout the book, but who he
was as a person would prevail in the story. I would describe Santiago as being determined,
headstrong, and curious, he is driven by his own wants and dreams. Throughout his life, he has

Analysis Of The Water Related Adaptation Interventions For...
At the community level, from my observation in work, I recognized that the local communities
have the best capability to adapt with the adverse impacts. People had managed to protect their
livelihood resources such as cropping fields, ponds, aquaculture farms and domestic facilities. For
example, in the early rainy season, some focal groups of local residents are formed. These groups
are responsible for monitoring the water levels and protecting proactively the irrigationfacilities and
the critical areas of dykes. In order to cope with inundation, local residents have to work together to
dredge the small channels and to upgrade the paddy field embankments when they get the heavy rain
forecast. They have stored fresh water and changed in their water use to cope with potential floods,
storm, inundation and drought.
In short, the water related adaptation interventions in Thai Binh province focuses on upgrading hard
facilities in irrigation and water supply systems; capacity building programs; afforestation in coastal
zones and developing the local communities respond effectively to climate change. iii. Management
operation
Management in climate change adaptation plays an important role to ensure the success of
interventions. The primary approach in Vietnam administrative management is a top down approach.
In climate change adaptation management, national organizations develop the policies, strategies,
plans and national programs to adapt with adverse impacts. The lower
Social Inequality Breaks the Meaning of the Constitution
Social inequality limited the growth of the United States in many ways such as breaking what the
constitution stood for independence which did not apply to African Americans because the
prominent race which was white. However congress started to go against this inequality and stood
for equality. The phrase Jim Crow came along in the 1880 which was the same time that the
Supreme Court had tried and failed to eliminate the Poll taxes which was also known as the
grandfather clause, even though the laws undermined all federal protections for African Americans
civil rights. At the same time that African Americans lost voting rights, southern states passed racial
segregation laws to separate people of the opposite race in public and private... Show more content

In 1881 1964, Jim Crow laws separated Americans by race in 26 states. The most common type of
segregation was De Jure segregation which was the legal separation of Americans by race. There
was another type which was named de facto segregation which separated people based on customs
and beliefs. This type of segregation was much harder to fight than De Jure Segregation because
eliminating it would require changing people s attitudes rather than repealing the law. The rule of
law imposed penalties and punishments on people who broke the statutes and ordinances
mandating segregation. Separate Car Law was a law passed by the Louisiana State Legislature in
1890 which required equal, but separate train car accommodations for Blacks and Whites. The civil
rights act of 1785 tried to abolish this. Civil war abolished slavery but brought white supremacy. In
1964, congress outlawed all

why people resist change. Some of these key reasons included the following: Dislike of Change,
Discomfort with Uncertainty, Perceived Negative Effect on Interests, Attachment to the Established

An empirical study of performance measurement in manufacturing firms

Maurice Gosselin
´ ´ School of Accountancy, Universite Laval, Quebec City, Canada
Abstract
Purpose The recent performance measurement literature suggests that organizations should put more
emphasis on non financial measures in their performance measurement systems, that organizations
must use new performance measurement approaches such as the balanced scorecard and that
measures should be aligned with contextual factors such as strategy and ... Show more content on

The purpose of this paper is to examine what are the measures that manufacturing firms use, classify
these measures into categories, assess the extent to which firms use performance measurement
innovations such as the balanced scorecard and integrated performance measurement system and
examine the association between the measures and contextual factors like strategy, decentralization
and environmental uncertainty. A survey was mailed to 200 randomly selected Canadian
manufacturing firms to collect data on their performance measurement systems. After extensive
follow up procedures, 101 responses were received. The results show that traditional measures are
still widely used and that the proportion of firms that have decided to implement new performance
measurement approaches is relatively low. Furthermore, the level of performance measurement
competence does not seem to be as high as one could expect. More specifically, the results show
that the types of performance measures used by firms are seldom associated to strategy,
environmental uncertainty and decentralization. This paper is organized as follows. A brief review
of the literature is completed in Section 2. The questionnaire and the data collection process are
described in Section 3. The results are described and discussed in Section 4. 2. Empirical research on
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Sharing Economy
5.Benefits and Downsides of Sharing Economy

Now that the most common claims and rumors about the sharing economy were discussed in a bit
more detail, and some advantages and disadvantages were already identified, the following chapter
takes again a closer look at them. The purpose of this chapter is primarily directed towards the
possibility to predict the future, since depending on which side outweighs the other, the future
prognosis will correspondingly modify. In the following, by and large, a distinction between the
different types of the sharing economy will not be made, it is intended to serve as an overall
overview. Above all, Uber and Airbnb, as the probably most well known platform providers, are
often used for illustrative purposes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All in all, a picture of unfair competition stands out, which needs to be reduced unconditionally.
Because how should a company, which is strictly regulated and, for example, also has to hand over
high tax levies to the state, compete with a company which is not subject to the same rules, but
instead much lower and more convenient
I Do Not Agree With Gifted Students Being Left Behind
I do not agree with gifted students being left behind. As an educator we sometimes just let the
gifted students do their own thing because we feel that they have a good understanding of the
content. In the classroom, a majority of the focus goes to the students who are struggling and
those students get the majority of our attention. The gifted student needs to be a focal point of
the classroom as well. Challenging them to reach new heights should be the educators focus but
it does not always happen. The No Child Left Behind initiative is another component that hurts
our gifted students. The administrators and teachers are so focused on this law that is put in
place for our schools that their main focus is to make sure all students are kept on track with their
appropriate grade level. This is a big reason in my opinion why gifted students are being left
behind. School districts are putting so much focus those students and not doing enough for our
gifted students. Tracking has been going on in schools for a long time. Bigger school districts are
able to group students better by ability levels since they have more courses to offer in their
curriculum. The smaller schools which I am accustomed to have a more difficult time. Smaller
schools have to get creative and send their more gifted learners up to higher grade level in the
elementary for a class like reading or math. In the junior high and high schoolclasses, schools are
able to move students into other

When looking at both companies websites you can quickly gather that they are in fact, targeting
the same audience. The sites contain very similar features. Sephora.com uses the sophisticated
standard of black and white with minimum graphics and a classic font. What really sets the
Sephora site apart is the use of red font, popping up sporadically on the page. The classic trio of
black, white and red along with the classic font gives Sephora a glamorous, retro Hollywood
impression.

Ulta.com also utilizes the black and white motif but instead of red accents, a light orange
embellishes select text for emphasis. The font is considerably more fun; adding to an overall
youthful appearance. There are more graphics and attention grabbing headliners on Ulta.com. The
addition of graphics and headliners does not make the Ulta page seem more cluttered but is
something a regular Sephora customer would not expect to see on Sephora.com

In another similarity, both sites current ads feature a playful, flirty, spring like pink that catches the
eye immediately against the black and white backgrounds. Each site offers richness as the products
aren t just listed statically but described very well. There are multiple links along the site that
instruct customers on how to utilize products correctly. Guides are available that are tailored to the
customers unique appearance after completing a brief questionnaire. Both sites offer a chat feature
that allows the consumer to interact
