Bangladeshi Culture vs Western Culture

Culture is the complete picture of life of a society. Every country and every nation has its
own culture. As a nation, we have a culture of our own. We have our own language, art,
music, lifestyle, ideas, beliefs, food habits, social values and customs. We have songs
based on rural life. We have our own dress patterns. We have our marital systems based
on religious and social rules. We celebrate Pahela Baishakh as the Bengali New Year's
Day. We also celebrate Eid, Durga Puja, Xmas, Buddha Purnima and some other days.
We, Bangladeshies, are renowned as a conservative nation. On the other hand western
culture is showy and materialistic. This free mixing western culture and their secularism
is always a matter of concern to us. But the culture of our country is getting mixed with
western culture because of satellite channels, Youtube and social media. Pop music,
western dress, fast food, celebration of the 31st night and Valentine’s Day are found in our
country. This mixing of foreign culture has enriched our culture and at the same time
become a threat to the existence of our culture. Some aspects of our own culture are
losing their appeal. It is not possible to keep one’s culture unmixed in this present age.
But we can protect our own culture if we practise our customs in our everyday life and
avoid the negative aspects of foreign culture.
