The Lost Iago in Shakespeare s Othello Essay example
The Lost Iago in Othello
In Shakespeare s Othello the sinister nature of the ancient casts a pall of uneasiness over the
narrative of the play. How can the evil influence of one character be so pervasive? Let us in this
essay probe his character and find answers to our questions.
In Historical Differences: Misogyny and Othello Valerie Wayne exposes Iago s inability to praise
women when Desdemona asks him how he would do it:
Iago s worry that he cannot do what Desdemona asks implies that his dispraise of women was
candid and easily produced, while the praise requires labour and inspiration from a source beyond
himself. His insufficiency is more surprising because elsewhere in the play Iago appears as a ... Show

Evidence of his psychopathic personality is seen early in the play. He manipulates the wealthy
Roderigo into awakening the senator Brabantio ( Rouse him: make after him, poison his delight );
and then he utters very offensive smutty lines about a black ram and white ewe, which indicate
the way his sick mind operates. Iago s very language reveals the level at which his evil mind
works. Francis Ferguson in Two Worldviews Echo Each Other describes the types of base,
loathsome imagery used by the antagonist Iago when he slips his mask aside while awakening
Brabantio:
Iago is letting loose the wicked passion inside him, as he does from time to time throughout the
play, when he slips his mask aside. At such moments he always resorts to this imagery of money
bags, treachery, and animal lust and violence. So he expresses his own faithless, envious spirit,
and, by the same token, his vision of the populous city of Venice Iago s world, as it has been called.

He seems to be motivated by love of money which he has been receiving from Roderigo for some
time ( thou, Iago, who hast had my purse / As if the strings were thine ). Iago himself says that he
is motivated by revenge on the Moor ( I follow him to
Emily Dickinson s Poetry
To be blind is not miserable; not to be able to bear blindness, that is miserable John Milton.
Secluded for most of her life, Emily Dickinson was an American poet/writer who had some of the
greatest works of poetry. Often her poems were dark and short in length. She wrote over 1,800
poems in her lifetime but most of them was published after her death. Her works are known for
nature, love, death, and out of the ordinary rhymes/rhythm. Both of her poems Before I got my
Eye Put Out and We Grow Accustomed to the Dark expands upon the metaphors of loss and
darkness. In Before I got my Eye Put Out , the metaphor being expanded on is sight because it s
precious. In We grow Accustomed to the Dark , sight is a metaphor of something that is
ultimately lost but eventually you begin to pick yourself back up. In Before I got my Eye Put
Out , it s discussed that when the narrator got their eyesight taken away they start to remember the
way things used to be when they could see and they start to reminisce all of those precious things
that they took for granted. Now more than ever they re even more cautious and afraid to make
mistakes because they see their newfound blindness as a disability to society and that they
would never have their old life again. For example in the third stanza of the poem Dickinson
states The Meadows mine The Mountains mine (Dickinson). This quote shows how the narrator
misses nature along with all of her other surroundings and being able to look at the things she
cherished the most. Secondly, in We Grow Accustomed to the Dark , when light is taken away
you start getting used to the warmth of the Darkness as you begin to maneuver your way around
in it. It also discusses how this person isn t afraid to make mistakes because soon with time and
patience they will soon get used to all the obstacles in the darkness. Loss of eyesight can symbolize
various meanings such as pain, ignorance, etc. For example in the fifth stanza Dickinson states And
sometimes hit a Tree Directly in the Forehead But as they learn to see (Dickinson). This quote
shows how they may stumble and get hit but they re not gonna quit and they re going to learn to see.
This poem expands on the metaphor of

Although they have grown a lot from 2002 to 2007, the growth from 2007 to present is a slow and
steady crawl with a smaller amount of advance than the amount experienced in their previous years.
Sales Growth As mentioned in the Financial Analysis, Panera Bread s revenues and sales have
grown from year to year from 2002 to 2010. The main total of revenue derives from Bakery café
sales. This subdivision of revenue gave way to a $1,108,517 increase from 2002 to 2010. That
number grew every year from 2002. Fresh dough and other product sales to franchisees came in
second with franchise royalties and fees following.

The principal strength presented by management was Concept Essence, a blueprint for attracting
and retaining customers . It reinforced Panera s strategy and incorporated numerous ideas that were
combined to distinguish Panera from the competition. These ideas were to offer selection of
breads, bagels, and pastries baked daily; serving high quality food for a good price; a menu with
adequately diverse offerings; providing courteous, capable, and efficient customer service; creating
bakery cafes that were
Ludwig Van Beethoven s First Piano Concerto In C Major.
One of the greatest composers I remember doing in the class is Ludwig Van Beethoven. Beethoven
was a German composer and the predominant musical figure in the transitional period between the
Classical and Romantic eras. Composer and pianist Beethoven, was considered the greatest
composer of all time. He won many patrons among the leading citizens of the Viennese aristocracy,
who provided him with lodging and funds, allowing Beethoven, in 1794, to sever ties with the
Electorate of Cologne. Although there is considerable debate over which of his early pianoconcerti he
performed, most scholars believe he played what is known as his first piano concerto in C Major.
Shortly thereafter, Beethoven decided to publish a series of three piano trios as his Opus 1, which
were an enormous critical and financial success. One of my favorite... Show more content on

King. B.B. King was an American singer and guitarist. King father brought him into Lexington
and his grandmother passes away. There, for the first time he discovered segregation. A mob
hung a black boy and then dragged him behind a car to the courthouse in Lexington. King
witnessed the boy getting dragged; it was an image he never forgot. King was subjected to
bigotry, racism, hatred, and denial. After him seeing the young man being dragged made him not
want to be around or do that to somebody so king did something that impacted many people. He
became one of the best blues players to ever life. One reason I like B.B. King was because I read and
heard a lot about his story growing up and for him to learn about becoming a blues player
motivated me it does not matter how hard life gets, I still could make it out and become one of
the best at whatever I choose to do. One of the biggest awards king got was in 2006 when
President George W. Bush awarded King the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Not everybody gets
that award, so I think it was a huge honor and privilege for him to receive that

Dark Knight Rises Ideology
Ideology is a set of beliefs and ideas adopted and practiced by a specific group, whereas hegemony
is the dominance of one group over another. These two concepts work hand in hand. Typically, the
relationship of power is created through the contrast of ideology between two particular groups.
This difference in ideologies often create a conflict in film. There is a large effort to transform
cultural structures as natural ones; groups attempt to make their partial and particular ideologies
universal and legitimate . In Hayward s reading on hegemony, he describes this same notion as
transparency of class interest . This clash of ideologies is most commonly recognized as films with
hero(es) and villian(s). In these specific cases, the hero fights for the societal... Show more content on

The media text I chose is from a scene in Christopher Nolan s 2012 film, The Dark Knight Rises.
The specific scene takes place in Crane s court, in the midst of Gotham City post takeover by
Bane, a masked revolutionary. As the scene begins, the first man to take the seat amongst the
sentence hearing is Phillip Stryver, executive vice president of Aged Industries. Crane exiles
Stryver on the conviction and justification that he has been living off the blood and sweat of those
less powerful than him . In the shot following, Gotham City s police commissioner, James Gordon
is being arrested under the authority of the people of Gotham . In both scenarios, Crane offers the
two options for those who appear in his court: exile or death, though exile concludes inevitable
death. This scene gives a great glimpse of the current state of ideology and hegemony of the film. At
this point in the film, the people are under rule of lawlessness
Lack of Communication Is the Biggest Problem in Healthcare...
Problem Statement Introduction One of the major problems in healthcare today is the ineffective
communication among hospital personnel, patients and their families, and the effect it has on
patient safety. Communication, as a whole, is very complex and is the root of teamwork and
collaboration which aids in keeping patients safe in the hospital. Throughout the healthcare field
today patient centered care and patient safety seem to be major focus points. Unfortunately,
ineffective communication can potentially cause patient harm and even death. The breech in
ineffective communication between hospital staff and family was clearly portrayed in the story of
Lewis Blackman. The lack of both communication, not just verbally but through... Show more

During the multiple days Lewis was in the hospital a series of symptoms developed and he was
misdiagnosed by doctors twice. Many staff members from the healthcare team came in and out of
Lewis s room without properly identifying themselves to Lewis or his family (Haskell, 2009). As
portrayed in Appendix 1, all of these safety mishaps during Lewis s stay led to a decrease in patient
and family satisfaction. Also, patient centered care seems to have almost not even existed in Lewis s
story which affected his safety. Purpose Statement The purpose of this paper is to discuss how lack
of communication is the root cause in a patient s demise. The author will argue that poor
collaboration of doctors and nurses, overall satisfaction, and patient centered care collectively affect
patient safety. This paper will enunciate the primary causes that were detected and propose a solution
to further enhance the safety and well being of patients. Quality Measure There are six quality and
safety measures as defined by the Institute of medicine (IOM); patient centered care, evidenced based
practice, continuous quality improvement, safety, informatics, and teamwork and collaboration
(Cherry Jacob, 2014). The safety measure is best paralleled with the topic of communication
presented throughout this paper. Safety is the effort to minimize risk of harm to patients through
system effectiveness and individual performance (Cherry Jacob, 2014,
Jazz Influence On American Culture
Jazz and the culture surrounding its history has evolved into one of the worlds most widely known
art forms and eras of American music. It is distinguished by its variety of musical characteristics; as
well as its evolution in New Orleans, its early performers, the instruments that make it, where it was
performed, and the infusion of African and European musical elements. This paper will examine the
origins of this unique musical identity along with its characteristics and the cultural history
surrounding it. In order to begin understanding the culture surrounding the JazzEra, we must first
discuss where jazz began. Jazz had its beginnings in the cultural melting pot of New Orleans. New
Orleans was where jazz evolved because it was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The original instrumentation included the cornet, clarinet, trombone, tuba/bass, piano, banjo, and
piano. This instrumentation was due to the fact that there was a low availability of instruments
for black musicians to possess. The musically was characteristically ensemble oriented. Each
instrument in the jazz band had its own role in the ensembles. Glamorous improvisations didn t
become common until late in the era. However, due to the lack of musical literacy, the black
musicians tended to expand on the music with improvisations. These improvisations were still
constrained by the concept of maintaining an ensemble. It wasn t till around 1925 that musicians
were able to improvise accurately and professionally. Once fully improvised solos became
common, the ensemble concept became less prevalent. The instruments used in jazz became
standardized between 1910 and 1915 ( Jazz ). However, in about 1931, the banjo became less
popular in jazz and was slowly replaced by the guitar (Carney, 301 303). On top of
instrumentation, the vocal style used in jazz music was unique all on its own. Louis Armstrong
made popular the jazz vocal style that was characterized by nonsense syllables and improvisation.
This vocal style was termed scat singing and became the popular style of singing for the jazz genre
( Scat ). Jazz in its entirety was a unique style set
Example Of Government Manipulation
Government Manipulation The United States government claims that that they are always for the
people of America. And make it sound patriotic and civilized like everything is going the way it
should. When in reality they are hiding the truth from the U.S citizens whether it is education,
laws, or news from the media. The United States government continues to buy/adopt new
government plans through media that we are not always fully aware of. John Maxwell Hamilton
/ Kevin Kosar explain specific ways in which they are doing to control what we choose/pay for.
We have a right to know which companies receive government contracts, how to collect insurance
benefits and social security payments and what public school educational reform will look like.
But too often, the government uses its information machinery to do more than simply inform us
about a policy. Sometimes, it tries to persuade us to adopt a particular position, regardless of its
efficacy. What Hamilton and Kosar are saying is that the government is very bias about media
propaganda and persuading the people of the United States about plans/regulations that we barely
understand or know about, into using our own money towards what they want. Rather than the
other choices that they did not want us to know. This also relates to large news sources such as,
Fox News and CNN, who tend to have a bias point of view with little background information as
possible. People tend to believe Fox News because of their popularity and
Water Effects On Aboriginal People
Today, the Aboriginal people aren t treated nearly as harsh as they were back then, but the
Aboriginal rights have still continued to be repressed and they are being treated poorly. Let s take
the water issue for Aboriginal people, for now, 80 Aboriginal communities are under, boiled water
advisories and 21 of those communities have a high risk of contaminated water otherwise known as
polluted water. The Canadian government apologized to the Aboriginals, but that apology only
addressed the residential schools and ignored all the times they raided and broke the Canadian
Constitution of 1982. Another problem for them is the poor houses, an example is the Attawapiskat
First Nations, who drew massive media attention to the housing problem and
