1. A horizontal line PQRS is 12 m long, where PQ=QR=RS=4 m. Forces of 1 kN, 1.5 kN, 1 kN and 0.5 kN
act at P, Q, R,S respectively in downward direction. The line of action of these forces makes angle of
900, 600, 450 and 300 respectively with PS. Find the magnitude, direction, position and equivalent system
about P.
2. Determine the magnitudes F1 and F2 of the components of force F with magnitude F =5 kN in the
directions f1 and f2 as shown in fig 1
3. A hook is subjected to three forces (F1 = 180N, α1 = 450 , F2 = 50N, α2 = 600, F3 = 30N) as shown in
fig 2. Determine the magnitude and direction of the resultant
4. Find the resultant direction and position of a set of coplanar forces acting on a lamina as shown
in Fig. 3. .Each square has side of 10 mm. Also find X and Y intercepts of resultant.
5. A sphere (weight = 40 N) is resting in a V shaped groove as shown in the figure 4 and is subjected to a
spring force. The spring is compressed to a length of 100 mm from the free length of 150 mm. If the
stiffness 2 N/mm. determine the contact reactions at support.
6. In the fig5, the portion BC of the string is horizontal and the pulley is friction less. Determine the
tension in different parts of the string. Also find W1 and W2
