Humility Addition - is a process of combining two or more numbers
3:05-3:55 Addends - are the numbers added
Sum – it is the final answer we get after the process
Integrity Integer - is a number with no decimal or fractional part and it
includes negative and positive numbers, including zero.

Positive Integers - A number is positive if it is greater than zero
Negative Integers - A number is negative if it is less than zero.
Zero is defined as neither a negative number nor a positive
number
Like signs - When both numbers are either positive or negative
Unlike signs - When one is either positive or negative
Absolute Value - is the non-negative value of x without
regard to its sign.

Activity: Perform the indicated operations on integers.

Abstraction:

Adding Integers with the Same Sign


1. Add their absolute values
2. Attach the common sign with the sum.

For example: 2+3=5


(-2) + (-3) = - (2 + 3) = -5.

The absolute value of a number is the positive value of the


given number. For an instance, the absolute value of 6 is 6, the
absolute value of -6 is 6, and so on.

Examples:
(-1) + (-9) = - (1 + 9) = -10
3 + 8 = 11
(-2) + (-17) = - (2 + 17) = -19

Adding Integers with Different Signs


1. Subtracting the absolute values
2. Attaching the sign of the number with the greater
absolute value.

Example: -2 + 3 = _____

Find the absolute values of both. The absolute value of -2 is 2,


and of 3 is 3.

Find the difference between these absolute values


which is 3 - 2 = 1.

Since 3 > 2, and 3 has a positive sign, the sign of the


resultant number will be positive. Therefore, - 2 + 3 = 1.
