Network Troubleshooting Examples

Example 1: No Internet Connection

- Check Modem/Router: Make sure it's powered on.


- Restart Router: Unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug back in.
- Try Another Device: See if the issue is with just one device.
- Check Cables: Make sure all cables are connected properly.
- Call Your ISP: If nothing works, your internet provider may be having issues.

Example 2: Slow Internet Speed

- Run Speed Test: Use a site like fast.com or Speedtest app.


- Close Background Apps: Stop downloads or streaming from other apps.
- Restart Router: Clear temporary issues.
- Move Closer to Router: Wi-Fi signal may be weak.
- Limit Devices: Too many users/devices slow the network.
- Upgrade Plan or Router if speed remains slow.

Example 3: IP Address Conflict

- Restart Devices: Often clears the issue.


- Release and Renew IP (on Windows):
- - Open Command Prompt
- - Type: ipconfig /release -> press Enter
- - Then: ipconfig /renew
- Assign Static IP:
- - Go to Network Settings
- - Set a unique IP manually under IPv4 settings

Example 4: Wi-Fi Not Showing on Phone or Laptop

- Restart Your Device and Router.


- Check Wi-Fi is Turned On on your device.
- Forget the Network (if seen before):
- - Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Forget Network
- - Reconnect again
- Make Sure Router is Broadcasting SSID (in router settings).
- Check Airplane Mode is off.

Example 5: DNS Server Not Responding

- Change DNS Settings:


- - Go to Network Settings
- - Use Google DNS: Primary: 8.8.8.8, Secondary: 8.8.4.4
- Flush DNS Cache:
- - Open Command Prompt
- - Type: ipconfig /flushdns -> press Enter
- Restart Router and PC

Example 6: Printer Not Connecting Over Network

- Check if Printer is On and Connected to the Network.


- Go to Devices > Printers on your computer.
- Reinstall Printer Driver: Remove the printer, then Add Printer again.
- Enable Printer Sharing:
- - Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced Sharing
- - Turn on Printer Sharing
