M. TECH./ M. PLAN. PROGRAMMES SELF-SPONSORED SCHEME (2025-26)

National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is planning to conduct an Institute-level Spot


Admissions for filling the vacant seats of various M. Tech/ M. Plan programmes (Self- sponsored) on
18th August 2025 as per the schedule given below.

1. Introduction
Institute-level spot admissions will be conducted to fill the remaining vacancies in M. Tech/M. Plan.
programmes (self-sponsored) for the academic year 2025-2026. Candidates who fulfil the
prescribed minimum eligibility criteria as given in the following section may walk in to appear for
the selection process as per the schedule above. Students admitted under the full-time self-
sponsored categories will not receive any financial aid/stipend or scholarship. The tentative
vacancy position for each PG programme under self-sponsored category is given in Table 1 below.
The candidates admitted under the self-sponsored category are eligible to appear for the
campus placement interview coordinated by the Centre for Career Development in the
institute. GATE score is not mandatory for the admission to PG self-sponsored scheme.

2. Eligibility for Admission to M.TECH./M. PLAN. Programmes (Self-sponsored)

Candidates for admission to M. Tech. degree programme should have passed B.E./ B. Tech. in an
appropriate branch from an approved Institute/University with minimum 60% marks (or CGPA
6.5/10) for GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC and 55% marks (or CGPA 6.0/10) for SC/ST/PwD categories.
Candidates for admission to M. Plan. degree programme should have passed B. Arch. / B.
Plan./B.Tech. (Civil engineering or Architectural Engineering), / or M.A/MSc in Geography,
Sociology or Economics or any other relevant degree approved by Institute of Town Planners India
from a recognized Institute/University with minimum 60% marks (or CGPA 6.5/10) for GEN/GEN-
EWS/OBC and 55% marks (or CGPA 6.0/10) for SC/ST/PwD categories. Candidates applying for M.
Tech. admission with MCA should have minimum 60% marks (or CGPA 6.5/10) for GEN/GEN-
EWS/OBC and 55% marks (or CGPA 6.0/10) for SC/ST/PwD categories, in both MCA and
undergraduate degree. Candidates who secured their B.E./B. Tech. degree under the lateral entry
scheme should have passed the three-year diploma in Engineering with minimum 60% marks (or
CGPA 6.5/10) for GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC and 55% marks (or CGPA 6.0/10) for SC/ST/PwD
categories. Holders of AMIE (approved by AICTE) / other nationally approved programmes
equivalent to B. Tech. / B.E., in the appropriate branch of study, are also eligible to apply for the self-
sponsored M. Tech./M. Plan. programmes. Conversion from CGPA to percentage or vice versa given
by individual Institute/University will not be considered/ allowed. If CGPA is on a different scale
than the 10-point scale, then it would be linearly mapped to a 10-point scale. Final semester under
graduate students can also apply under the self-sponsored category, provided their final semester
marks are made available by 30th September 2025. Such candidates will be considered for
provisional admissions.
Selection of candidates for M. Tech./M. Plan Programmes under the Self-Sponsored category will be
based on the performance of the candidate in the test and/or interview conducted by the respective
Department/School. No specific weightage shall be given for candidates possessing valid GATE
score during the selection process.
The details of M. Tech./M. Plan programme codes are given below. The candidates are required to
have B.E. /B. Tech. /B. Arch. B. Plan./B. Des. MA/MSc in the disciplines mentioned against the
corresponding programme code.

3. List of Documents to be Produced at the time of Admissions on 18th August 2025

Candidates are required to bring the following documents in original, at the time of
Admissions:
(a) Document for Proof of date of birth: Class X marksheet/ certificate issued by the school last
attended/ Recognized educational board containing the date of birth of the applicant. In case,
class X marksheet/certificate does not contain date of birth, the candidate is required to
upload class X marksheet/ certificate and any other Government issued document containing
date of birth of the applicant, name and Parent’s name such as Passport/ Aadhar Card/
Driving License/ Voter ID Card/ PAN Card/ Birth Certificate issued by Municipal
Corporation/authority empowered to register the birth.
(b) Photo ID proof as per Govt. of India norms.
(c) Mark sheet of Class XII/ Diploma certificate and mark sheets in case of lateral entry
candidates (The candidates who have appeared for improvement has to submit both the
original and the improvement mark sheets).
(d) Grade/Mark sheets of qualifying examination for all semesters / Consolidated Grade
(Mark) sheet with all subjects mentioned in it.
 For the final semester appearing candidates, whose results are awaited or final
semester exams are not over, mark sheets up to the pre-final semester need to be
produced. If the mark sheets of the final two semesters of the qualifying degree are
available as digital copies, the self-attested copies of such certificates are to be
produced.
 The calculation of CGPA or Percentage (Whichever is the primary mode of
evaluation criteria by the university) should be clearly visible in the mark sheets /
consolidated marks/ grade cards.
(e.) Original Degree certificate/ Provisional degree certificate:
 Original degree certificate: Since the provisional degree certificate is valid for
limited period only, candidates who have passed out in the year 2023 or before must
submit their original degree certificate at the time of physical reporting.
 Provisional degree certificate: Candidates who have graduated in 2024 or 2025 are
allowed to submit their provisional degree certificate at the time of physical
reporting. However, candidates who have graduated in 2024 have to submit original
degree certificate by 30th September 2025.
 Final semester candidates: If the result of qualifying degree is awaited, certificate of
course completion from the Institute/University last studied must be provided in
the prescribed format available in Annexure A. Such candidates also have to submit
an undertaking in the prescribed form as given in Annexure B. However, they need
to submit provisional degree certificate by 30th September 2025.
(f) GATE score card (2023/2024/2025)/JAM score card (2025), if any.
(g) Community Certificate, in the case of SC/ST candidate, from a competent authority (not
below the rank of Tahsildar).
(h) Certificate from the Medical Board of Govt. Medical Colleges/Dist. Head Quarters
Hospitals, in the case of Persons with Disabilities (PwD), if applicable.
(i) Transfer or Leaving Certificate issued from the institute last studied/attended. You can
submit the Migration certificate instead of the Transfer certificate, only if the
Institute/University is autonomous/Deemed or the institute is not providing the same. In
that case you need to submit a proof issued from the institute last studied/attended
stating that they do not issue a transfer certificate.
(j) Conduct/Character certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organization last
attended/working or Gazetted Officer issued within last six months (Should have been
issued on or after 1st February 2025). If character is indicated in the transfer
certificate, please make sure that the Transfer certificate is issued after 1st
February 2025, otherwise you must produce a separate certificate for
character/conduct.
Notes:

i. If the original certificates are not in English/Hindi, English/Hindi version/translation of such


certificates, duly certified by the Principal/Director or other competent authority of the
graduating Institute, will be required during the verification of documents. Standard format of the

ii. One Photostat copy of all relevant original documents also should be submitted at the time
of admissions.

 Categories, tuition fee and exemptions fixed by the Government of India are subject to change from time to time.
 Amount towards Annual Premium for Medical Insurance may vary every year.
 Students availing hostel need to pay Rs. 12,000/- extra against Hostel Seat Rent per semester
5. Hostel Admissions*

Limited hostel accommodation facilities are available in the campus. The fee
structure for the hostel admissions and hostel charges (with effect from 2025-
26 admissions) are as given below:

“Candidates should have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with CGPA of at
least 6.5 in the 0-10 scale grading system, OR not less than 60% marks. However, this
prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.0 OR 55% marks in the aggregate for
SC/ST/PWD candidates. Only primary mode of evaluation (CGPA or percentage) as
mentioned in the qualifying degree certificate/mark sheet shall be considered while verifying
eligibility. Conversion from CGPA to percentage or vice versa given by individual
Institute/university will not be allowed”
4. I am also aware that after the announcement of my Bachelor’s degree results, if I am found not
to satisfy the above eligibility criteria, my admission would be cancelled and I will not be
entitled for refund of the Institute fee paid to NIT Calicut.
