In this module, the role of Web 2.0 in the online world will be discussed and how it had affected
the participation of the user in the online experience.
For the learner
In the fast evolution of technology, the WWW is one of the most use platforms, in terms of
information dissemination, data gathering and way of communication.

At the end of this module, you are expected to:


1. be familiar with Web 2.0;
2. know the rich content and collaborative features of Web 2.0; and
3. assess one’s experience along a range of online rich content on the basis of the usability
of the interface.

What’s New?

The World Wide Web is one of the most useful tool this days. It has been a great help for the students,
professionals as well as the government. It eases the way of spreading awareness to people, acquiring
information and most specially in communicating with others. Let us see the difference between Web 1.0,
Web 2.0 and Web 3.0

Web 1.0 offers a static web page, meaning there are no changes happening in the page or “what you see
is what you get.” Web 1.0 sites also aren’t interactive. End users or the visitors were just there to view or
watch what is being offered, he cannot modify a content. Lastly, it is mainly for proprietary purposes only.
It is used by the businessmen or companies to introduce their business. It is commonly known as “the
mostly read only page.”

Web 2.0 sites however are dynamic pages, which mean that contents change from time to time. It offers
rich user experience because the user can now modify or add a content. Another feature of Web 2.0 is it
enables media sharing more efficiently. It is also considered as user friendly because the user can easily
understand what to do and where to go in the page. Web 2.0 is widely read and write page.

On the other hand, Web 3.0 is said to be the future of the internet. It has no concrete definition yet but
it’s main goal is to make the internet experience easier for users. It is said to be related to Artificial
Intelligence that can understand context rather than just keywords. Web 3.0 is considered as “all about
data”.
