Windows 8
(The next step to the future) What Is Windows 8?
Windows 8 is the codename for an upcoming version of Microsoft Windows, a series of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, notebooks, tablet PCs, and media center PCs.
Introduction:
Windows 8 is the version of the Microsoft Windows computer operating system following Windows 7. It has many changes from previous versions. In particular it adds support for ARM microprocessors in addition to the previously supported x86 microprocessors from Intel and AMD. A new Start Screen interface has been added that was designed for touch screen input in addition to mouse, keyboard, and pen input. Windows 8 will contain a new user interface based on Microsoft's design language named Metro. With the new change, the Start Menu was replaced in favor for the new Start Screen, where there are tiles that contain shortcuts to applications, Metro style applications, and updating tiles, similar to Windows Phone. A new authentication method allows users to sketch in three different places over the picture to login, instead of typing a password.
Hardware Requirements:
Minimum hardware requirements

Compatibility
Windows 8 for x86 processors will run much software compatible with previous x86 versions of Windows, with the usual restrictions: 64-bit Windows will run also 32-bit software but not 16-bit ones; 32-bit Windows will optionally run 16-bit software if installed to do so, but will not run 64-bit software. Either 32- or 64-bit Windows can be installed on x86-64 processors. Some expertise in manipulating compatibility settings may be required to run, for example, 16-bit software for Windows 3.x under 32-bit Windows 8, in cases where it is possible. In particular, applications compatible with 32and 64-bit Windows 7 will run in the same way on Windows 8. Windows 8 for ARM processors will not run software created for x86; software will have to be ported by its developers to create ARM executables from source code. Windows 8 Developer Preview is incompatible with some virtualization platforms, such as Virtual PC. A blog post by Microsoft notes that the setup process is error-prone when installing in a virtual machine, and installing without hardware virtualization support can be particularly problematic. It is reported to work under VMware Workstation and VMware Playerdetailed instructions for installing in these environments have been published.
Features of windows 8
All Windows 7 applications will run natively on Windows 8 Window 8 support for USB 3.0 Window 8 support Bluetooth 3.0 Window 8 support compatibility across different devices through the cloud. Window 8 support simpler streaming of movies and TV shows to any screen. Window 8 support also for integrated facial recognition technologies. Better and more intuitive system views. Compare Windows 7 with Windows 8. Built-in antivirus software will ship in Windows 8

Windows 8 tile interface
The user interface is radically different, with no windows, frames, menus, or other UI elements on the screen: just the content itself. It's also promised to be gesture-oriented, though it will work with a mouse and keyboard as well. Here are the relevant points that have been revealed about Windows 8: Windows 8 will be able to run on a wide range of machines because it will have the same every level of the Windows architecture-the kernel, networking, storage, devices system requirements or lower than Windows 7. Window 8 imagines, user interface. The new OS is really Fast and Fluid. The new OS is created on Windows new application development platform. Based on HTML5, Javascript and CSS. The 2 interface (at this point) seem to be in the same OS. You can switch between apps by just dragging them in from the side. The tables tiles have a very slick fell to them. With Window 8, apps are all optimized for touch. It will allow tables to connect to USB sticks.

Can windows 8 finally vanquish the ghosts of XP and VISTA?
Abbreviation of Ghost is General Hardware-Oriented System Transfer. These days, Microsoft is haunted by two ghosts. Windows Vista has practically vanished, but Windows XP is still hanging around on stage, bumping into scenery and generally interfering with Microsofts careful messaging about all the cool and useful stuff its doing today. In Windows 8 automatically Windows drive is copied. Businesses were going to use Windows 8 as an excuse to get Windows 7. Sounds like crazy logic, but it makes sense. Businesses are not on the forefront of the technology revolution. They like to play it safe. With the majority of businesses still using XP the growth towards Windows 7 will intensify into acceptance. Windows 8 will be looked upon as cutting edge technology.
Difference between windows 7 and 8
Although, Windows 7 supports IA-32 and x86 architectures, Windows 8 will additionally support mobile ARM architecture and SoC (system-on-a-chip). A newly designed user interface including a new start screen of Windows 8 will replace the start button functionality of Windows 7. Unlike Windows 7, Windows 8 will have Xbox Live integration capability. Windows 8 is claimed to be more secure than Windows 7, because it uses OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) activation 3.0, while Windows 7 uses OEM Activation 2.0.
Windows 8 Video Chatter
Windows 8 will include the ability to call and video chat with other Windows 8 users. References to a Chatter video service were discovered in early leaked builds of Windows 8. The references match up to the fact that Microsoft shows off a camera notification on the lock screen of some of its promotional materials for Windows 8. Chatter could be used to unify several video calling services already available from Microsofts products and provide one easy route for Windows users to communicate over several Microsoft owned platforms.

Windows 8 security
Apparently Window 8 will use SmartScreen as a Security feature. It will proactively check the file system and attempt to stop and downloads that are foreign to it. SmartScreen is practically a dynamic list of known illegal, viral, fraudulent, or malicious URLs that Microsoft Manually or algorithmically identifies. It uses this list to compare the link or executes a user visits or downloads, warning if theres a match. Another rumored feature Network Access Protection (NAP) is designed to help administrators maintain the health of the computers on the network, which in turns helps maintain the overall integrity of the network. It is not designed to secure a network from malicious users. For example, if a computer has all the software and configurations that the network access policy requires, the computer is considered healthy or compliant, and it will be granted the appropriate access to the network. NAP does not prevent an authorized user with a compliant computer from uploading a malicious program to the network or engaging in other inappropriate behavior.
Windows Defender
If you dont have another solution installed, Windows 8 will provide you protection with a significantly improved version of Windows Defender. Improved protection for all types of malware. The improvements to Windows Defender will help protect you from all types of malware, including viruses, worms, bots and rootkits by using the complete set of malware signatures from the Microsoft Malware Protection Center, which Windows Update will deliver regularly along with the latest Microsoft antimalware engine. This expanded set of signatures is a significant improvement over previous versions, which only included signatures for spyware, adware, and potentially unwanted software.

Improved user experience. Microsoft has designed Windows Defender to be unobtrusive for most daily usage, and will notify you only when you need to perform an action, or critical information demands your attention. Windows Defender will also use the new Windows 8 maintenance scheduler to limit interruptions. Improved performance. Windows Defender dramatically improves performance on all key scenarios compared to common antimalware solutions on Windows 7, while maintaining strong protection. For example, Windows Defender with its full protection functionality enabled adds only 4% to boot time, while dramatically reducing CPU time during boot by 75%, disk I/O by around 50MB, and peak working set by around 100MB.
These same improvements benefit energy efficiency, meaning Windows Defender consumes less power, and gives you longer battery life.
Window 8 Facial Recognition
Microsoft is looking to add Facial Recognition and detection to Windows 8. Microsoft already offers very basic facial recognition on gaming systems through their Kinect and Xbox live products. Microsoft is looking to add it to the login screen as an option that can be enabled in the control panel. Discussions are still ongoing about whether to support: o Kinect o Webcams (generic 3rd party inclusive)
o Microsoft specific webcams

Releasing time
The latest rumor about Windows 8 is that it will be available to manufacturers in April 2012. By then the status of XP, Vista, and Windows 7 should be clear. The nature of the economy and the status of the Cloud should also be clear. XP and Vista should see the end of days. But even Windows 7 may be supplanted by Windows 8.
