2.1 - HISTORY

The history and evolution of web development is a testament to human

creativity and innovation. From the birth of the World Wide Web to the
dynamic, interconnected digital landscape of today, web development has
come a long way. As technology advances at an ever-increasing pace, web
developers will continue to shape the future of the web, offering new
possibilities and addressing emerging challenges.

The history of web development began with Tim Berners-Lee's creation of

the World Wide Web in the late 1980s, which led to the introduction of HTML
in 1991 as the foundational language for web pages. The mid-1990s saw the
"Browser Wars" and the rise of dynamic content with JavaScript. CSS was
introduced in 1996 to separate content from design, and the dot-com bubble
in the late 1990s paved the way for Web 2.0, focusing on user-generated
content and dynamic web applications.

Student portals started in the late 1990s as basic websites for accessing
course schedules and grades. Over time, they evolved to include features
like online course registration, digital libraries, and communication tools. The
integration of Learning Management Systems (LMS) enabled online
submission of assignments and access to course materials. With mobile
technology in the late 2000s, portals became more accessible, offering
personalized dashboards and real-time updates. Today, student portals are
central to managing academic and administrative tasks, with advanced
features like AI-driven support and social media integration.

Forums, also known as online discussion boards, began in the late 1970s
with the advent of Bulletin Board Systems (BBS), where users could post
messages and discuss topics. In the 1990s, forums became more widespread
with the rise of the internet, evolving into more user-friendly platforms like
Usenet. These early forums allowed users to engage in threaded discussions
on a wide range of topics.
As the web matured in the 2000s, forums became more sophisticated,
offering features like user profiles, moderation tools, and multimedia
sharing. They became essential for communities to share knowledge and
interests, from tech support to hobbies.

Web Development Framework: Future Trends, 2022 4th

International Conference on Advances in Computing,
Communication Control and Networking (ICAC3N), IEEE (6 th
December 2016)
Today advancement in technology is changing and challenging everyone’s
life and making it easier for humans to fulfil their needs, and to expect a
great evolution in expansion for web development. Now when we hear about
online systems, we seem to be well known to this term, whereas not long
time ago, we were quite hesitant towards it and considered it a taboo and
unnecessary science revolution. But with this constant mobile and web
application development, one need to be updated and follow all the trends to
become a professional as well as a developer. The most basic and first step
for development is to decide the right frontend framework. There is a wide
variety of options emerging every year as solutions for the problems
developers face every day with browser-based applications taking over the
world. This paper initially discusses different trends in framework and
libraries of JavaScript, which then summarizes the project we worked on
using these libraries and its future scope.

Development of a Web-Based Student Portal System for University

Students, IEEE (2022);
International Conference on Intelligent Education and Intelligent
Research (IEIR)
This project aims to design and develop a web-based Student Portal System
(SPS) for the University of Malakand to replace the current traditional system
and provide needed services for students use. Right now, the current
traditional system handles things like grading, attendance, and assignments,
but it relies on manual paper-based processes, leading to many
inefficiencies. Regrettably, it lacks a student centric approach. That’s where
our exciting Student Portal System comes in, ready to shake things up and
make student life a whole lot easier. The proposed SPS provide a
consolidated platform that brings multiple services together, making life
easier for students. Within this system, students can effortlessly access a
range of services, including attendance management, assignment tracking,
result retrieval, and quizzes. The proposed system provides a simple and
user-friendly interface. Teachers can log in to upload assignments, quizzes,
and attendance records. Clerical staff have the power to upload results,
monitor attendance percentages, and even create accounts for new students
and teachers. Meanwhile, students can log in to check their attendance, view
their results, and submit assignments. The Student Portal System (SPS) is
developed by using strong tools like PHP, MySQL Database, HTML5, CSS3,
JavaScript, and Bootstrap, to make sure everyone has an easy time using it.
Students Community Portal using Machine Learning 2023 Second International
Conference on Electronics and Renewable Systems (ICEARS), publish by IEEE (3 rd
March 2023)
The inability of students and teachers to effectively communicate is a major problem in today’s
schools. Some students have trouble speaking up in class because they are embarrassed by their
lack of public speaking skills furthermore, speakers rarely have enough time to elaborate on the
subjects they got to inform for a particular course, resulting in the decline in student
comprehension of a given topic. Colleges and universities have traditionally relied on in-person
meetings between students and teachers. The ratio of students to teachers has suffered as a result
of rising enrollments and greater public interest in higher education. This paper introduces an
online college and university discussion system to help instructors and students overcome the
challenges they face when trying to ask questions and receive answers, respectively. The goal of
this Campus Conversation Portal is to allow students from all over the college campus to easily
communicate with each other and the teaching staff, as well as to get their questions answered by
the faculty and their peers and to achieve only factual information support vector machine and
feed forward neural network is used.

Implementation of Intelligent Chatbot in Student Portal: A Systematic Literature Review

2022 International Visualization, Informatics and Technology Conference (IVIT), IEEE
(2nd November 2022)
The student portal gives users access to the channels of information and resources that they
require for their academic pursuits. This includes access to the library services, information
about their courses, and academic-related materials. On the other hand, this progress is not
without its problems, as most of these services have a finite lifespan while the team still supports
them. The student portal should build an artificial intelligence (AI) agent, like a chatbot, to
provide 24/7 support for its users. This Chatbot must have a straight-forward user interface or
GUI with excellent efficiency; hence it must be a simple system that users with minimal
technical understanding can operate. It is intended that by acting as a customer support
representative, a chatbot can enhance the user experience on student portal. This paper presents
the findings from systematic literature review on previous works of intelligent chatbot
implementation in student portal. Out of six main journal search engines and 100 articles found
related to this study, only 21 articles are taken into consideration for further analysis. The results
from existing studies on chatbot are tagged to nine categories based on content, and the findings
are elaborated in terms of the implementation challenges of chatbot for student portal.
Categories of questions in an online discussion forum: An analysis 2020 5th International
Conference on Computer Science & Education IEEE (5 June 2020)
The online discussion forum is a common means of learning for CSCL, because participants can
share or exchange their understandings, viewpoints, comments, or critiques of a certain task or
solving problems with it. The results of analyzing the contents of online discussion forums could
describe the characteristics of online discussions. In this study, the 20 undergraduate students
registered in a course - “Computer in Education” and participated in the relevant group activities.
Their postings in a web-based learning environment are analyzed for exposing how students
communicated each other demonstrated in the categories of questions. The coding scheme of this
study was proposed by Graesser and Person. The results illustrate that the characteristics of the
discussion forum.

Notes Sharing and Student performance Analysis Web Application , IEEE (17 May 2023) ,
2023 7th International Conference on Intelligent Computing and Control System (ICICCS)
Students frequently experience issues while taking notes, which interferes with their ability to
study. There are many reasons students miss to take notes in college. Without notes, they might
miss on important information and it would be really hard for the students during their exam
times. Students will have a place to congregate and engage in collaborative learning through our
application. It is possible for students to their materials (both written notes and documents in
PPT, PDF, DOC, etc. format) for free access by other students in any branch or semester. Each
user will log in to the application using their individual account. This application will also help
the students to earn money. Students who wish to earn money while studying can lock their
notes and the other students who want to download the notes have to pay the uploader. This way
the application will benefit students to earn part time and also encourage students to take notes in
class. There are few existing models for the said application but users face many difficulties like
access to notes only after payment, does not accept hand written notes, must upload notes
regularly, allows upload only for a particular stream. The proposed method provide solutions
like students from different streams can upload their notes, notes can be downloaded for free or
paid version based on how the uploader has set the download option.
CHAPTER 3
PROBLEM STATEMENT
PROBLEM STATEMENT

Student portals often struggle with complex navigation, lack of personalization, and poor
integration with other systems, which can affect usability and efficiency. Many are also not
optimized for mobile use or accessibility, and they may lack effective communication tools and
real-time notifications. Additionally, ensuring data security and privacy is a challenge. The goal
is to redesign the portal to improve navigation, personalize content, enhance system integration,
optimize for mobile and accessibility, and strengthen communication features and security,
thereby providing a more user-friendly and secure platform for students.

To enhance student portals, several key improvements are necessary. First, simplifying
navigation and personalizing content based on individual student needs will improve the user
experience. Seamless integration with other systems, such as Learning Management Systems and
administrative tools, along with consistent data synchronization, will ensure a unified and
accurate experience.
