Practical No:1
Aim: a) Work with Computer Systems, Input/Output Devices, and Peripherals.
Requirements:
● Desktop or laptop computer (Windows 10/11 or Ubuntu/Linux)
● Peripherals: USB keyboard & mouse, HDMI/DP monitor, printer (USB/Wi-Fi),
scanner or AIO, webcam, headset/speakers, external USB drive
● Power strip with surge protection
● Cables: HDMI/DisplayPort/VGA, USB, audio, network (RJ-45)
● Optional: multimeter (basic power checks), ESD wrist strap, cleaning brush
● Software/utilities:
○ Windows: Device Manager, Settings → Devices, Sound/Camera apps,
Notepad, WordPad, Print test page
Safety & Precautions:
● Power off and unplug before opening any chassis.
● Use an ESD strap; avoid touching gold contacts.
● Route cables to prevent tripping; avoid bending cables sharply.
● Never force connectors; match port types and orientations.
● Keep liquids away from equipment.
Theory:
A computer system consists of a central unit (CPU, RAM, storage, PSU, motherboard) along
with input/output subsystems and software. Input devices include keyboard, mouse, and
scanner. Output devices include monitor, printer, and speakers. Ports like USB, HDMI, and
audio jacks connect peripherals. Device drivers are software that allow the operating system
to communicate with hardware.
