Server Migration For Blog

This document outlines a plan to migrate virtual machines from a Hyper-V hypervisor that has become unstable to a more stable ESXi hypervisor. The migration will involve cloning VMs to a backup server, switching to run off the backup server, installing ESXi on the primary server, and cloning VMs back to the primary server. A utility VM will provide file, monitoring, media and SMS services. The timeline allocates 3 days for cloning, 1 day for each switchover, and 3 days for ESXi installation and final cloning.

MIGRATION FACET

System instability
Current Hyper-V hypervisor is getting instable and it has required to restart the server
time to time
Lack of integrity, Most of users log in to Host server and then connect to their Guest
machine so it put all the VM Guests at risk.
Resource Utilization
Current HostOS is windows server with UI which carries bulk of unwanted services And
other unwanted services installed by users.
Lack of features
Hyper-V has lack of support when it comes to mounting external devices such as USB to
the guest machine.
Restructuring
All the existing server will be replaced and additionally there will be one VM as a utility
server(Carrying Media services, File services and etc. )
