• Was born in manila on October 23,1913
• To Miguel Velarde,Sr. a doctor,and Dolores Guison.
• He was a composer,conductor and musical director.
• He married to luisa he had six children.
• He grew up in zamboanga where his mother gave him a
piano and violin lessons when he was six years old.
• He studied at zamboanga Normal School where he was
member of the school orchestra.
• He took up medicine at UP but later turned to music.
• He learned the fundamentals of composition and harmony
from Ariston Avelino and ANTONIO MOLINA.
MIGUEL VELARDE
• He put up a piano-jazz school and worked as a song
editor of the Philippine Free Literary and later of the song
movie magazine.
• He wrote musical scores for movies when Sampaguita
Pictures.
• Among his most important works as story and screenplay
writer are:
• Luksang Tagumpay-which was acclaimed as 1960 Best
Picture from FAMAS and Alaala Kita in 1961.
• Velarde was first influenced by irving berlin and cole
porter, as composer.
