POCKETS

There are three main types of pockets: patch pockets, seam pockets, and set-in pockets. Patch pockets are made from a separate piece of fabric attached to the garment. Seam pockets are pieces cut into side or front seams. Set-in pockets resemble long bound buttonholes with a hidden pouch inside the garment. There are also several kinds of pockets including stand, flap, welt, slash, envelop, and below pockets.

POCKETS
A part of a garment which
serves as a container
THREE TYPES OF POCKET
PATCH POCKET
It is made up of a
separate piece of fabric
attach to the garment.
The separate piece be
made using the same
material ( self Fabric) or
another material
preferably with a
contrasting color.
SEAM POCKET
It is a piece in an
opening along the side or
front seam. It is well
hidden and is not seen
on the right side of the
garment.
SET- IN POCKET
Looks like a long piped
bound buttonhole. A
slash is made into the
garment, its pouch is
unseen and hidden
inside the garment
KINDS OF POCKET
1. WELT POCKET
Inserted pocket with
edges finished as for
bound buttonhole
2. FLAP POCKET
Tailored pocket with flap
as finished for opening
3. SLASH POCKET
Pocket set into a slash
usually lengthwise on a
garment similar to welt
pocket
4. STAND POCKET
Is made by preparing the
welt or stand separately
from the pocket section
5. ENVELOP POCKET
A type of applied
pockets with flap closing
and pleated inside
section for additional
room or bulk some what
resembling and
envelope.
6. BELOW POCKET
Patch pocket made with
an open box pleats in
center to allow pockets
to expands
How to make a seam pocket
1. Make a pocket design.
2. Trace the design
3. Assemble the pocket and sew.
4. Measure 1 ½ inch from the seam line of the front
pants
5. Attach the pocket and
6. Baste it.
