Operating System
⌘An operating system, or "OS," is a software that
communicates with the hardware and allows other
programs to run.
⌘ Every desktop computer, tablet, and smartphone
includes an operating system that provides basic
functionality for the device.
⌘Common desktop operating systems include
Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

Language Processor
⌘A language processor is a software program designed
or used to perform tasks such as processing program
code to machine code. Language processors are found
in languages.

Device driver
⌘A device driver is a computer program that operates
or controls a particular type of device that is attached to
a computer. 
⌘A driver provides a software interface to
hardware devices, enabling operating systems and
other computer programs to access hardware functions
without needing to know precise details about the
hardware being used.

Utility software
⌘Utility programs, commonly referred to as just
‘utilities’, are software programs that add functionality
to your computer or help your computer perform better.
⌘Although operating system provides all the features
users need to use and maintain their systems, inevitably
they still do not meet everyone’s expectation.
⌘Examples of utility programs are antivirus software,
backup software and disk tools.

Generalized packages
⌘General purpose application software is a type
of application that can be used for a variety of tasks.
⌘It is not limited to one particular function.
⌘Examples of General purpose application
software include: Word processors, Spreadsheet and
Presentation software.

Specialized packages
⌘Specialized Application Software is a software that is
specially designed for an individual or company's
specific needs.
⌘Specialized software is software that is written for a
specific task rather for a broad application area.

Customized packages
⌘These are the software applications that
are customized (or developed) to meet the specific
requirements of an organization / institution.
⌘For Example: Student information details,
Payroll packages, inventory control etc.
These packages are developed using high-
level computer language.
