Introduction
• Java Ring is a finger ring that contains a
small microprocessor.
• It is a sort of a smartcard that is wearable on
a finger.
• The Java Ring is a stainless-steel ring, its size
is 16- millimeters (0.6 inches) in diameter.
(Cont…)
Introduction
• That houses a 1-million-transistor
processor, called an iButton.
• The ring has 134 KB of RAM, 32 KB of
ROM.
Java Ring
History
• The java ring was introduced at Sun
Microsystems, in March 1998.
• It was developed by Dallas Semiconductor.
• Java ring has been tested at Celebration
School, just outside Orlando.
(Cont…)
History
• The rings are given to students and have
been programmed to.
• store electronic cash to pay for lunches.
• automatically unlock doors.
• take attendance.
Java Ring In Its Natural
Environment
Components
• Java virtual machine(JVM)
• RAM
• ROM
• Blue Dot Receptor
JAVA VIRTUAL MACHINE
(JVM)
• It’s a piece of software,recognizes java
language.
• Translates into byte code with can be used
the sysytem.
• Preloaded with small programs.
Working
• Whenever the user pushes his ring on a
ring reader(Blue Dot Receptor), the
corresponding application will take place.
• The jewel of the java ring is the iButton.
• iButton is a computer chip enclosed in a
thick stainless steel can.
(Cont…)
Working
• Java Ring uses 1-wire protocol for
communication with the host and the
iButton.
i - Button
• iButton is the computer chip enclosed in
thick stainless steel can.
• It was originally called touch memory
device later renamed as iButtton.

i-Button
Blue Dot Receptor
Blue Dot Receptor
• Java ring is programmed with the applets
and programming is done according to our
application.
• Whenever user pushes his ring on blue dot
receptor, the corresponding application
will take place.
Advantages
• Ideal where information need to travel with person.
• More secure than using passwords.
• Portable.
• Ruggedness.
• Wearable.
Disadvantages
• Many organization doesn’t know the
existence of java ring.
• i-button have limited memory.
• Loss of privacy.
Conclusion
• It is highly durable.
• It can be attached to a wide variety of
accessories like keychain etc.
• The key issue about a java ring that you
need to have all the time to access the
application.
(Cont…)
• Latest Technology
• Can be highly successful in market in
future.
• More durable because of its stainless steel
armour.
