Definition
Parallel structure means using the same pattern of
words to show that two or more ideas have the same
level of importance. This can happen at the word,
phrase, or clause level.

Parallel Structure with Degrees of Comparison
When you make a comparison, you point out the similarities or differences
between two things, and those similarities or differences must be in parallel
form.
Positive Degree
This offers no comparison. It just tells us about the existence of a quality.
Comparative Degree
This compares two things to show which has the lesser or greater degree of the
quality.
Superlative Degree
This compares more than two things to show which has the least or greatest degree of the
quality.
Practice
Determine whether the following sentences are parallel
structure!
1. I need a box of milk, two packs of cereal, and a loaf of bread.
2. You can do your task or studying for the test first.
3. Before reading a book, you have to read not only the blurb, but also
the review.
4. Either having dinner outside or to have dinner at home will be fine.
5. My house is bigger than you.
