Preventive Vs Predictive Maintenance
Preventive maintenance is a planned or scheduled maintenance, performed even when machines or the systems
are in complete functional mode, to prevent any breakdowns or issues from occurring in the future.
Predictive maintenance (otherwise known as condition-based maintenance). This differs from preventive maintenance
in the sense that it requires predetermined and preset conditions. Variances from the conditions, identified during
continuous or routine measurements, provide the information needed to perform any maintenance required to avoid
equipment failures or to coordinate repairs with scheduled maintenance, thus reducing costs.

The system measures and records humidity,
temperature, Barometric pressure, and rainfall and
upload the data to a web server.
IoT Applications – Smart Home Lighting
Enhanced comfort, convenience, choice, and control applications
Slide #5
Typically, lighting control systems have the following features:
On/off and dimming controls
Occupancy sensors to detect whether rooms are occupied
Photo-sensors to detect the current illumination levels provided by natural and/or
artificial light
Scheduling that turns on, off, and dims luminaires at preset times
A centralized control system interface (such as a wall panel or computer software) to
manage all of the above
A method of measuring, displaying, and responding to lighting energy usage

Types of Smart Lighting System
Smart lights can have a wide variety of applications. Based on type of application smart lighting
system are classified in following types.
Slide #10
Smart Street Lighting
Automated street light management
system controls brightness at different
times of the night without any manual
intervention. Statistics show that street
lighting, including maintenance,
represents 40 percent of the expenditure
of a municipality
Advantages
Huge energy savings through a
smart combination
Remote management and repair
Lighting on-demand

Slide #11 Smart Home Intrusion Detection System
The applications of the PIR Motion Sensor and camera using
Raspberry Pi project have already been mentioned.
Some of them are:
• Automatic Room Light
• Motion Detection
• Intruder Alert
• Automatic Door Opening
• Home Security System
A passive infrared (PIR) sensor is an
electronic device that measures infrared
light from objects in its field of view. PIR
sensors are often used in motion detectors
for security alarms and automatic lighting

Sensor
End Node
•The overall system “Forest fire Detection and prediction over IoT”
consists of several sensor Modules
• LM35 – Analog temperature sensor gives Temperature
value
• DHT 11 – Digital Humidity sensor gives moisture value
• LDR – Light dependent Resistor gives intensity of light
• Ultrasonic – Sensor gives distance values
• Soil moisture –gives digital moisture of ground
• ADXL335 – accelerometer gives vibration of motion
values.
