2. Solution Introduction – Why
Poor uplink edge user experience:
• Poor uplink edge coverage
• Poor uplink edge signal quality
• Low uplink edge throughput

2. Solution Introduction – How
UL CoMP procedure
Start
1. The gNodeB triggers A3 measurement. A
UE that sends an A3 measurement report
is selected as a UL CoMP UE. UL CoMP measurement
2. A neighboring cell that triggers A3
measurement reporting can be selected UL CoMP cooperating cell and
as a cooperating cell of UL CoMP. The UE selection
cell receives uplink data from the UE and
sends the data to the serving cell.
Uplink joint reception
3. The serving cell combines the data it
receives and the soft bit information sent
from the cooperating cell, and performs End
decoding.

2. Solution Introduction – How
Coordination data
Joint reception for UL CoMP
• The cooperating cell receives uplink
Serving cell Cooperating cell
data from the UL CoMP UE,
demodulates the data, and sends
soft bit information to the serving
cell.
• The serving cell combines and
decodes the received data.
• Dual-cell reception, combining, and
decoding can improve reception
accuracy and throughput compared
with single-cell reception.

Recommended Scenarios
UL CoMP increases the uplink throughput of cell edge users (CEUs) and improves user experience. It is
recommended that this function be enabled in the following cells:
• Cells that are lightly loaded, working in low frequences, and having TDD massive MIMO enabled
• Cells that provide contiguous coverage where cell edge coverage is poor and cell edge throughput is low

5. Verification
Activation verification
Check the number of UEs scheduled for intra-base-station UL CoMP in a cell using the N.IntraGnbUlComp.SchUser counter. If the
value is not 0, UL CoMP has been activated.
New counters
Counter Name Description
This counter measures the number of UEs scheduled for intra-base-station UL CoMP in a cell in all slots of
N.IntraGnbUlComp.SchUser
a measurement period.
This counter measures the uplink data volume sent at the RLC layer for UEs in overlapping areas in a cell.
N.ThpVol.UL.CellOverlap
Such a UE is identified based on event A3 (that is, neighboring cell SSB RSRP - serving cell SSB RSRP >
threshold).
This counter measures the uplink data volume of small packets sent at the RLC layer for UEs in
N.ThpVol.UL.SmallPkt.CellO overlapping areas in a cell. Such a UE is identified based on event A3 (that is, neighboring cell SSB RSRP
verlap - serving cell SSB RSRP > threshold). Whether a packet is a small packet is determined when it is
received. It is a small packet if it is scheduled before a BSR is received or if the uplink buffer becomes
empty based on the BSR.
This counter measures the transmission duration of non-small packets for UEs in overlapping areas in a
cell. Such a UE is identified based on event A3 (that is, neighboring cell SSB RSRP - serving cell SSB
N.ThpTime.UL.RmvSmallPkt
RSRP > threshold). A slot is counted if DRBs are transmitted correctly in this slot and it is not the last one
.CellOverlap
before the buffer becomes empty. All DRBs for such UEs in the cell need to be considered during the
measurement.
