The play begins with a ghost appearing walls of Denmark castle on a dark winter night.
This ghost was of king Hamlet who died two months ago and it was rumored that he died from a
snake bite.
The king had a son named Hamlet and a brother named Claudius who took the throne after him and
married his widow queen Gertrude.
The important thing is that the play began with the appearance of the ghost at the castle walls.
The guards were afraid and tried to talk to him but the ghost refused to talk.
We move inside the castle and find queen Gertrude and king Claudius trying to convince Hamlet to
accept the marriage of his uncle and mother and to consider him his friend.
Then everyone leaves and Hamlet is left alone and talks to himself saying that he is shocked by his
mother how she accepted the idea of her husband’s death and got married after less than two
months, even though she showed him all the love and affection during his life.
His speech is interrupted by the entry of the guards to inform Hamlet about the ghost,
So he does with them to investigate the news.
The ghost appears and signals to Hamlet to follow him. The ghost speaks and tells Hamlet that
he is tormented spirit of his father, seeking revenge. He did not die because of a snake bite,
but rather his brother Claudius killed him and deceived the queen with gifts so that she would
Marry him.
Hamlet decided to pretend to be man in front of people to take his revenge.
But Hamlet suspected that the ghost could be a devil incarnated in the spirit of his father.
He was torn between reason and emotion.
Polonius was an advisor to the king and his son was named Laertes and his daughter was Ophelia.
Hamlet loved Ophelia and he used to write her poems and bring her gifts, but her father always
warned her about Hamlet because he was a prince.
After the confusion that appeared on Hamlet, Polonius thought that the reason for this madness
Was Hamlet’s love for Ophelia, so he went to the king and queen and told them about the love story
Between Hamlet and Ophelia. He told them that when he prevented his daughter from seeing Hamlet,
Symptoms of madness appeared on him.
The king and queen were convinced by his words and agreed to arrange a meeting
Between Hamlet and Ophelia to confirm the news.
Indeed, Hamlet and Ophelia met, and king, queen and Polonius were eavesdropping
On them. Hamlet pretended to be mad and treated Ophelia very badly, and
Asking her to scream and act with him.
Then a group of actors arrived and Hamlet agreed with them to perform a play in front or the king and
queen. The topic would be about a brother killing his brother by pouring poison into his ear.
Thus, he could confirm whether the ghost’s words were true.
And indeed the play was performed, and Hamlet’s uncle became very angry and left the hall, very
upset. Hamlet confirmed the ghost’s words.
He went to kill his uncle, but he found him praying. He was afraid that his soul would enter heaven
If he died while praying, so he decided to carry out his revenge at another time when Claudius would
be drunk or angry.
Then the queen summoned her son to reproach him for his
recent behavior, but he got angry at her and asked her how
she was able to forget his father so quickly? And how she
married her husband’s killer? His anger increased with her until.
The queen screamed and asked for help.
At this time, the advisor Polonius was hiding behind the curtain
by order of the queen to investigate Hamlet’s madness.
When the queen screamed Polonius moved behind the curtain,
and Hamlet stabbed him, thinking that he was his uncle Claudius
and thus the advisor died. Then the ghost appeared again and
spoke to Hamlet but the queen didn’t see him, so she thought
that Hamlet’s madness had increased. She hurried to Claudius to
ask for help, so Claudius ordered Hamlet to be sent to England
and convinced the queen that he was the only solution to treat
Hamlet. Claudius prepared a latter to send to the king of England,
ordering him to kill Hamlet as soon as he read the letter.
Hamlet traveled with two of his friends, Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern who worked for his father and the king gave them
the letter to take to the king of England. But on the way Hamlet
didn’t trust his friends, so he searched their belongings and
replaced the letter with another one ordering the king to kill the
messengers as soon as he read the letter. He sealed the new
letter with the royal seal, fled, and returned to Denmark.
After Hamlet returned to Denmark, he had missed many things.
Laertes, Polonius' son, had returned from France and learned of his
father's murder. He went to the king's palace with a group of angry
friends, but the king received them warmly and told Laertes that he was
not present at his father's murder and that the one who killed him was
Prince Hamlet. They agreed to kill Hamlet and avenge Polonius.
During the dialogue between Laertes and the king, they received the
news of Ophelia's drowning. Ophelia, after Hamlet's shock when he
denied her love and pretended to be mad, was shocked by the death of
her father Polonius, so she lost her mind and began to go around the
people, distributing wreaths of roses to them, and speaking and singing
incomprehensible words.
She went to hang a wreath of flowers on a tree branch by the river, but
she fell into the river and drowned. Then Ophelia was buried without
the usual funeral rites, and we thought that she committed suicide.
•After burying Ophelia, the king and Laertes sat
down and made a plan for revenge.
•The king arranged for Hamlet to have a sword
duel with Laertes. Swords are supposed to be
safe, but the king removed the safety sheath
from Laertes' sword, put poison on it, and put
the poison in its water.
•The time came for the duel and Hamlet won
the first and second rounds, but in the third
round he was wounded by the poisoned sword.
The fight intensified and the swords fell and
were exchanged. Hamlet wounded Laertes with
the poisoned sword. When Laertes knew that
he was going to die, he confessed everything to
Hamlet and that everything was planned by
Claudius. The queen had drunk from Hamlet's
poisoned cup and fell to the ground screaming,
"They poisoned the cup, Hamlet.
•Hamlet went to his uncle and forced him to
drink from the poisoned cup and stabbed him
with the poisoned sword as well.
•And so everyone died.
