Introduction
• Project involves logging and monitoring temperature data over the internet using ThingSpeak

IoT server and alerts via Email if temperature is greater than threshold.

• Utilizes ESP8266 Wi-Fi module and LM35 temperature sensor.-

• ESP8266 reads temperature from LM35 using ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter).

• Temperature data is sent to ThingSpeak server for live monitoring.

• Allows viewing of logged data and graphs over time on ThingSpeak's website.

• Provides remote monitoring capability from anywhere in the world

Applications
• Food and beverage industry: Ensuring proper storage
and transportation temperatures for perishable items
like food and medications.
• Scientific research: Monitoring environmental
conditions in greenhouses, laboratories, and field
experiments.
• HVAC maintenance: Verifying the performance of
heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in
buildings.
• Cold chain logistics: Tracking the temperature of
goods during shipment to identify potential spoilage
risks.
• Building management: Monitoring indoor air quality 08/18/2025

Research Gaps:
• Temperature can be measured in
the range of -55 degree Celsius to
150 degree Celsius.
• Not suitable in dusty and wet
environment.
• The LM35 temperature sensor likely
to self heat, which can slightly
elevate readings.

Contributions of Proposed model:

• ESP8266 microcontroller instead of Arduino UNO is used which

is compact and has built in WI-FI protocol.

• LM35 sensor is used instead of thermocouple ,hence avoids

physical contact with subject whose temperature should be
logged.

• We are going to log and monitor temperature data over internet

using ThingSpeak IoT server instead of SD card. And we can
view the logged data and graph over time in their website.

working
Hardware
LM35 is a temperature sensor that outputs an analog signal which is
proportional to the instantaneous temperature. The output voltage can easily
be interpreted to obtain a temperature reading in Celsius.
NodeMCU is an open-source firmware and development kit that helps you to
prototype or build IoT products. It includes firmware that runs on the
ESP8266 Wi-Fi SoC from Espressif Systems, and hardware which is based on
the ESP-12 module
DHT11 is a basic, ultra low-cost digital temperature and humidity sensor. It
uses a capacitive humidity sensor and a thermistor to measure the
surrounding air and spits out a digital signal on the data pin (no analog input
software
pins needed). It's fairly simple to use but requires careful timing to grab
• data.
ThingSpeak: Thing Speak is a very good platform for IoT based projects. By using channels and web
pages provided by ThingSpeak we can monitor any data over the Internet from anywhere and we can
also control our system over the internet. ThingSpeak ‘Collects’ data from sensors, ‘Analyze and
Visualize’ data and ‘Acts’ by triggering a reaction.
• MATLAB: MATLAB offers a wide range of built-in chart types like line plots, scatter charts, distribution
plots, and geographic plots to visualize datasets from a diverse set of applications. You can create
visualizations either interactively or programmatically using the MATLAB language. 08/18/2025 9
