- #2 MySQL is the data base component of the LAMP open source solution stack that is used in building general purpose web servers running a Linux OS. Other operating systems use essentially the same software bundle such as WAMP for Microsoft Windows, MAMP for Mac OS, SAMP for Solaris and OAMP for OpenBSD.A database is a structured collection of data.
