David Muir halts ABC show for 'chaotic' breaking news in biggest blow to Donald Trump yet

David Muir was forced to halt ABC World News Tonight for a 'breaking news' segment on Donald Trump's ongoing immigration crackdown - but it's bad for the president

ABC World News Tonight got off to a rather dramatic start as host David Muir went straight into a breaking news story on President Donald Trump.

Kicking off the long-running ABC program, the 51-year-old journalist addressed viewers and announced, "Evening, we do begin tonight here with the breaking news, the chaotic scene unfolding here in New York City. Federal authorities, including ICE agents, conducting a crackdown late today, sweeping through the well-known area of Canal Street in lower Manhattan."

"The Chaos erupting, traffic halted. Multiple people have been detained at this hour. The Raid, part of an operation targeting illegal street vendors. Many are believed to be migrants living in New York City, the area known as a draw for tourists, bargain shoppers, many looking for designer knockoffs," he added.

"This operation comes amid the increasing federal presence from New York to Chicago to Los Angeles, and it comes just hours after two people were shot during an operation in Los Angeles, including a US Marshal," David pointed out.

He then concluded his part of the segment by passing on to his colleague, "So what led to that incident? But first, the scene in New York City late today and ABC News' Matt Rivers leads us off from Lower Manhattan tonight."

Matt's report then played on screen, showing clips of the chaos unfolding across the nation, including ICE agents making arrests and scenes of standstill traffic.

The segment, seen as a huge blow to President Trump and his administration, was shared to ABC World News Tonight's Instagram account, along with the caption, "Federal agents descended on NYC to carry out an immigration crackdown on Canal Street. In Los Angeles, Homeland security officials said a U.S. Marshal and a suspected undocumented immigrant were both shot and wounded during a traffic stop. Matt Rivers reports."

Fans were quick to react, with one user commenting, "Damn they are just working to make a living. The real problem is in the White House and the people he is trying to pardon," as a second joked, "Launch one at Mar-A-Lago," which is Trump's residence in Palm Beach, Florida.

"Tell me how this deserves a Nobel Peace Prize!!!" another viewer asked, as a fourth declared, "This is so sick." However, not everyone was in uproar over the crackdown.

One person admitted, "I'm for this you know cause the immigrants should be legal Why haven't they after 10 years and people need to work for Government benefits unless your disabled and a mom with babies but you still can work. we have so much jobs in our town vacant they rather hold a sign." While someone else said, "They are out of control and must be stopped at all cost."
