ABC's David Muir reacts to 'uncomfortable' thirst-traps online

ABC's David Muir is one of the most-watched news anchors in America, but he's not exactly comfortable with some of his more devoted fans' thirst-traps on social media

Being one of the most-watched anchors in America comes at a price, but David Muir knows all about it, helming the news desk of ABC's World News Tonight since 2014.

The 51-year-old has accomplished so much over his 11 years at the news channel, from covering some of the most hard-hitting world news stories to helping set an all-time record of $9 million in donations raised for the World Food Program through his reporting.

Muir has repeatedly proved his dedication to bringing viewers the news coverage they need. He's brought fans to tears with heartwarming segments, and even inspired heated debates online. However, he's also invoked warm, fuzzy feelings in others.

Muir is, of course, known for his stellar reporting but he's also become an internet "Daddy," due to his good looks. Many fans have shared thirst edits on TikTok.

There's also a Tumblr Page called "Gimme Gimme Muir," which is "dedicated to ABC World News Tonight anchor, 2020 co-anchor, and journalist, David Muir. Find all things David here! This is the official unofficial David Muir fan page," the page reads.

In an interview with People earlier this year, Muir opened up about some of his more devoted fans' thirst-traps on social media.

"People will forward TikTok videos, but only because they are laughing out loud at them and making fun of me and saying, 'When did you become Daddy?' So I don't know whether that happens when you hit 50 or what, but I'll take it as a compliment, I think," he joked.

"Anyone who works with me knows that I am so uncomfortable even having to put on the tux. So the fact that I survive those events is still a surprise to me without looking like a total nerd."

The news anchor added, "So maybe it's lost on me, but I guess Daddy's better than the alternative." Despite the online thirst traps, Muir said it's actually his dog, Axel, that fans probably love more than him.

He loves when people come up to him and interact because he feels that if they're "going to be with me every night on the news," they do know him and have every right to come up and "sort of check in with me," he said.

Muir has a dog walker who has been with him for six years now. However, he loves the stories of when the dog walker is out in public and people say, "Is that David Muir's dog?"

He says it "kind of puts it all in perspective," and that the dog is "always the most important." Muir concluded of Axel's fame, "I think [he's] more [famous]. He deserves to be. And he has no idea which makes it even more special."
