Bruce Willis' wife Emma Heming near tears as she marks 'historic first'
In the midst of Bruce Willis' dementia battle, his wife Emma Heming is praising a politician who is 'giving our community so much hope' with their latest initiative
Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming has praised a politician who “continues to inspire her.”
Throughout the Die Hard actor’s health battle over the past few years, the 70-year-old's family has openly shared their journey and struggles throughout the process. His partner Emma has previously shared that she felt “deeply alone” during his health struggle and his daughter Rumer has shared heartbreaking posts to him.
Despite having “no hope” at times, they continue to lean on one another and look at the brighter side of things, which is exactly what his wife Emma did when she took to Instagram to share that New York has officially signed the FTD Registry Bill, making it the first state to establish a research registry dedicated to frontotemporal dementia.
She said, “I am so proud to share that the FTD registry bill has officially been signed into law in New York by Governor [Kathy] Hochul.
“This is a historic first,” Emma added. “It’s the very first statewide registry in the nation dedicated to frontotemporal dementia.”
“I can’t believe I am saying those words with a smile on my face,” she continued.
The model explained how the law is going to give doctors and researchers real data to be able to track diagnoses, raise awareness and improve care for families living with FTD. She also took a moment to give credit to a few other political members who got the ball rolling on this bill, naming Assemblywoman Amy Paulin and Senator Michelle Hinchey, who she says is an “inspiring leader.”
“Your work to honor your dad uplifts me every day,” she praised. “I know how hard it is to turn pain into purpose, but your strength and your persistence has given all of us so much hope.”
“Because of you and the advocates who work beside you, and Governor Hochul, we now have this model law that every state can follow,” she added, before thanking the senator for “fighting for this bill for two years and getting it to the finish line.”
The model mentioned she plans to try and figure out how to implement the law in California, where she and Bruce live.
Emma has dedicated her social media platforms to the FTD awareness ever since Bruce was diagnosed with the disease in February 2023. Since then, his health has declined and his conditions have worsened.
Friend and writer Glenn Gordon Caron previously spoke to The New York Post about Bruce's health, saying, "He's not totally verbal; he used to be a voracious reader - he didn't want anyone to know that - and he's not reading now.”
“All those language skills are no longer available to him, and yet he’s still Bruce,” he added. “When you’re with him you know that he’s Bruce and you’re grateful that he’s there, but the joie de vivre is gone.”
